Arcanine (the Legendary Pokémon) is a rare Fire-type Pokémon (Fire/Rock-type in the Hisui region) found among grassy plains and rough terrain within the Kanto, Johto, Unova, Alola, Galar, Paldea and Kitakami regions as well as some parts of China and the Hoenn and Sinnoh regions on rare occasions. Admired for their regal and magnificent appearance, Arcanine are powerful fighters that can devastate the competition with their powerful Fire-type attacks and blindingly fast Extreme Speed attack. You might need to get a hold of a rare Fire Stone in order to obtain one, but if you need a loyal beast by your side in battle, you probably won't find a better use for one out there!

In ancient China, Arcanine were considered to be legendary Pokémon because of their extreme rarity in the wild, often spoken of in ancient literature as loyal creatures that helped generals conquer armies in the past; this legendary association is mainly prevalent because Fire Stones are few and far between in China, and only in modern times have natives realized that Arcanine evolve from Growlithe that have been exposed to the radiant energy of a Fire Stone. Their beautiful and majestic appearance seems to command a degree of respect from all who see them, and people are particularly enthralled by their grand manes; even their barks seem to be regal in nature, and people often can't help but grovel in response. While this is nice for cultural context, it actually tells us little about how they operate in the wild; as a result of their rarity in the wild, it is unknown if there is any sort of communal lifestyle present between Arcanine and Growlithe. Furthermore, the Chinese government has been unwilling to allow any researchers near them in their natural habitats, so it is extremely difficult to perform any research at all. The scant few that exist today within the wild around the world tell us little, as they have adapted to different environments over time; if more is to be learned about these creatures, it can only be learned in their original area of habitation.

What seems to capture the attention of most people, though, is the speed of Arcanine. While their movement speed is not high in regards to their actual Speed stat, Arcanine are known to often utilize their Extreme Speed attack (which is inaccessible to Growlithe) to move around at blinding speeds. Running incredibly agilely as if on wings, Arcanine have been known to cross distances of up to 6,200 miles in 24 hours, fueled by the fire burning inside their internal flame sac; in ancient times, this was often the most defining feature demonstrated within drawings and paintings, and it seems to be clear that their uniqueness within Chinese environments was seen as a good omen. Unofficially, many people today still consider spotting a wild Arcanine a good omen, though others dismiss such superstition. While most likely not a good omen in the sense of predicting a good future, the cautious nature of Arcanine would denote that anyone who spotted one would have to have been someone worth trusting in the creature's eyes; seeing as they were often hunted for their majestic manes, this seems to fit. For opponents, though, it is unlikely that these beasts will ever be much of a good omen, as their devastating physical attacks (including a Thunder Fang attack that is normally inaccessible to their pre-evolved form) and powerful Fire-type abilities make them a dire threat against any opponent not naturally shielded against intense heat.

It is lastly noted that Arcanine are one of the few species of Pokémon known to have a unique variant within the confines of the Hisui region. In this region, these creatures are Fire/Rock-types; possess slightly decreased base Special Attack and Speed stats and slightly increased base HP and Attack stats; and have access to the Rock Slide and Raging Fury attacks. Hisuian Arcanine are said to have been one of only a select group of Pokémon that were blessed with cosmic power by Arceus in the times of the Hisui region, the precursor to the modern Sinnoh region, and served as the Noble Pokémon of the Cobalt Coastlands in the time of the Hisui region. Much as with their pre-evolved form, these creatures are different from normal Arcanine in that their front is covered in a thick layer of igneous rock and fur that is used as both a heat shield and as a way of insulating them against the harsh winters of the Hisui region, but it also doubles as a powerful set of armor that allows them to attack recklessly in battle to give them an edge in close-quarters fights. The armor might look bulky, but in truth it does little to slow these creatures down, allowing them to move with almost the same degree of agility and grace as Kantonian Arcanine and in turn allowing them to lead foes around on a merry chase while avoiding their attacks at the same time. When they must attack, they tend to strike with their powerful flames as their teeth and mouth are ablaze and coated in flames, delivering powerful blows like their potent Raging Fury attack to great effect. These beasts are incredibly hard to tame on their own and thus are worth fearing, but their loyalty still shines forth towards those that take care of them, making them valuable partners to rely on in a pinch.

Arcanine might be majestically magnificent and regal in appearance, but they are also definitely not slouches when it comes to battle and should never be taken lightly in a fight. Possessing a slew of powerful Fire-type moves and techniques, an Extreme Speed attack that could knock down a small house and the highest base stat total out of all non-legendary, non-UB and non-Paradox Fire-type Pokémon, you can be sure that any cocky challenger will think twice about challenging this powerful canine head-on. If you are a Fire-type enthusiast or just a trainer that loves strong Pokémon, keep a well-trained Growlithe with you at all times, for you never know when a Fire Stone just might turn an ordinary day into an extraordinary one!

Hisuian Arcanine has really grown on me, honestly. So strong and so fast. If only Ground types weren't the bane of its existence. (I know it's majorly weak to Water too, but both variants of Arcanine can learn Electric moves to counter that weakness.)
