Aurora Unit 242, constructed in 2060, was the first Aurora Unit to ever be implanted into a Galactic Federation Naval ship and helped to define the position of the Olympus-class Battleship in the Galactic Federation’s 7th Fleet. 242 possesses a distinguished career as an Aurora Unit and has maintained a positive working relationship with the crew of the G.F.S. Olympus, though her female personality has led some of the personnel aboard the vessel to refer to her as “Other Brain”, which Fleet Admiral Dane does not approve of. When the entire Aurora Unit network was brought down in 2078 by a Phazon-based virus constructed by the Space Pirates during the early stages of the Phazon Crisis, Federation scientists were able to quickly create a vaccine for the virus and Aurora Unit 242 was the first to be administered this vaccine, but in order to protect the rest of the system from further infection, the entire Aurora Unit network was shut down. During and following the attack on Norion by the Phazon Space Pirates, Aurora Unit 242 acted as the guiding voice and informant for Samus Aran as she explored the planets afflicted with Phazon corruption in the Kalandor region and was the first to examine the state of Samus’ body after first becoming corrupted while Hypermode was activated. This Hypermode flaw was the direct result of being infected by the Phazon of Dark Samus and thus was not something that the Federation had anticipated in its limited experience with PED technology, explaining perhaps why the other bounty hunters that had assisted Samus before has become bent on destroying her under the influence of Samus’ dark twin. In the end, Aurora Unit 242 proved to be more than an assistant to Samus and the rest of the Federation in turn, as she and Fleet Admiral Dane successfully led the Galactic Federation’s 7th Fleet into battle and helped them survive just long enough for Samus to complete her mission and destroy Phaaze in its entirety. Since then, Aurora Unit 242 has been lauded with many rewards and honors and is poised to continue her job until the end of her operational status, no matter what disaster may befall her or her crew in the process.
