Celadon City might not be the largest city in the entire Kanto region but it is more than well-known amongst most not only for its luxurious buildings and massive Department Store but because of the Game Corner that rests between the mixture of old and new homes that dot the outskirts of the city. At Celadon City, one can spend their money in a manner of ways, ranging from a serious attack of shopaholic fever to simply wasting money at slots in the hopes of striking it rich. Regardless of one's tastes, both routes serve the same purpose and help this otherwise abnormal city gain the finances it needs to keep itself supported despite the looming shadow of nearby Saffron City. In addition to these wonderful enterprises, it is also known that this city was once the home of Kanto Team Rocket Hideout, hidden in the basement of the Game Corner. Team Rocket used the Game Corner to fund most if not all of their Kanto-based operations, but after their defeat at the hands of Red, the Game Corner was given to the city and is now a federally-funded enterprise that respects the individual customer a bit more and makes life easier for those trying to win big, if only because of the lack of merchandise being spent on items in the exchange corner.
Beyond the glitz and glamour of this city, however, is a quiet but well-respected Gym Leader who cares much more about the natural world around here than the artificial one humans have managed to create. Erika is a kind-hearted woman who spends much of her time around Grass-types and uses their otherwise foul odors to create powerful perfumes whose quality is only matched by Erika's love for plants. Erika often times works around her Grass-types as if they were plants but treats with the same respect any trainer would, in turn allowing her to be more accustomed to their otherwise bizarre powers and personalities. Erika is said to be a narcoleptic by some, but in truth, she meditates quite frequently and is often a bit sleepy as a result of being too harmonious with the plants and Pokémon around her. Interestingly enough, Erika seems to show a distaste in the traditional male response to plants and perfume and thus rarely ever lets male trainers into the Gym to battle her; in fact, most of the time she will never concede to such an action unless she feels that the trainer respects Grass-types as much as she does. This has made her both famous in the area and notorious amongst male trainers everywhere, as the Rainbow Badge she is supposed to give to trainers that beat here rarely ever manages to finds its way outside in the possession of male humans. Even so, Erika is a nice person and does what she can to take care of all the little things that humans often times ignore when taking care of plants, in turn making her plant-based Pokémon among the strongest of their kind.
