Celebi (the Time Travel Pokémon) is a legendary Grass/Psychic-type Pokémon found among forests globally, though sightings are obviously quite rare and sporadic. Revered in legends as the Voice and/or Guardian of the Forest, Celebi are exceptionally powerful creatures that seemingly perform the impossible by traveling freely through the annals of time. If you are lucky enough to ever see one of these majestic creatures, don't take the encounter very lightly, because if you're not careful, you might end up in a completely different time altogether!

Though little is known about Celebi because of their exceptional rarity, they are widely recognized for their unique ability to travel through time. This ability comes courtesy of their intense psychic powers, which effectively allow Celebi to generate wormholes at will; while Celebi can generally control their final destination to some degree, they themselves are still subject to time's constraints and are unable to physically bend time like the deity responsible for its existence, Dialga. It is believed that their ability to time travel may strongly coincide with their feelings toward the natural world, which they hold in their hearts with the upmost importance. Possibly because of the density and variety of life they provide, Celebi are almost always seen within forests, flitting about as they search for berries, which appear to be their only real source of sustenance. Celebi possess great interest in forests and how they grow and develop over time, especially when outside interference (usually courtesy of humans) alters the environment drastically; perhaps not surprisingly, while these creatures tend to be skittish around humans and never appear during periods of strife, Celebi have been known to protect their environment with their lives against the worst of natural and mechanical offenders. If needed, Celebi can even restore devastated forest land and revive dead plants with ease, turning burnt fields of grass into tree-filled land within a moment. Celebi will only ever transport others across time as a last resort, either to protect the forest from them or to protect them from harm; there have been reports, however, of Celebi bringing eggs across time and depositing them randomly before disappearing back their environments. It is possible that Celebi might be attempting to experiment with the natural world to an advanced degree, seeing how an organism from one time will interact with those of another, but a lack of credible sightings makes such a hypothesis difficult to fully prove.

Celebi have been involved in two notable incidents within the past decade, the first of which being the "Dark Marauder" Incident that took place about 16 years ago. During this incident, an infamous member of Team Rocket, known as the Iron-Masked Marauder, attempted to locate and capture a Celebi within one of the forests of the Johto region. Unbeknownst to him, however, the Celebi he was looking for had recently transported a young male trainer from 40 years ago at that time into the present day (the exact reasons remain unclear due to the isolation of the incident), who was quickly accompanied by a second young male trainer in addition to a few of his friends. Unfortunately, the local community has refused to give many details about the incident, perhaps hoping to put it behind them, so what remains to be spoken is only vaguely provable. According to the best sources available, the Iron-Masked Marauder was in fact able to capture the Celebi, even though it had befriended the previously-mentioned trainers, by using a relatively mysterious capture device referred to as the Dark Ball; apparently, the technology of the Dark Ball maximized a captured Pokémon’s power while almost completely removing their free will, placing them completely under their trainer's command. The Iron-Masked Marauder used Celebi to nearly destroy the local forest and would have become unstoppable if left undefeated; with the assistance of the two young trainers, as well as a local Suicune, however, the Celebi was able to use its immense willpower to destroy the hold placed onto it by the Dark Ball. Sadly, the massive feedback of energy nearly killed the Celebi and placed it in dire straits; it was only with the help of other Celebi, who had traveled through time in response to the grisly incident, that the involved Celebi was revived and rejuvenated. The young boy that had been transported to the present was taken back to his original time, while the Iron-Masked Marauder was captured and disposed of by the local community through unknown means and has not been seen to this day. What makes this incident controversial, however, is the Dark Balls used by the Marauder. As shocking as it may seem, the few sample Dark Balls that have been obtained seem to indicate that the devices were the predecessors of Shadow technology, which gained its primary fame from the former organization known as Cipher. This could potentially mean that Team Rocket was the initial creator of Shadow technology but was unable to find any true use for it because of its dependency upon the Dark Ball's energy field for effect. By altering the given technology into a form that allowed manipulation of an individual Pokémon’s heart directly, Cipher may have then been able to turn the somewhat tentative technology into something truly fearsome. If this is in fact the case, it would further make this event the first-ever incident involving Shadow Pokémon.

The second notable incident is the Crown City Incident, which is the more recent of the two events (having taken place nearly seven years ago). According to reports, a businessman by the name of Grings Kodai managed to abduct a Zoroark and its child Zorua, blackmailing the mother Zoroark into attacking the city under the guise of the three legendary beasts (Raikou, Entei and Suicune) that served as Crown City's guardians. Grings had apparently obtained the ability to see the future twenty years prior to this event by touching a time ripple formed by a Celebi, releasing a time reversal in the process that killed all of the plant life in the city; with his powers beginning to fade, however, Grings became desperate and sought to restore them by any means necessary. Learning that the same Celebi had appeared again and produced another time ripple, Grings used the captured Zoroark to 'destroy' the city and, ordering an evacuation of the area, was finally able to search for the ripple freely. However, the child Zorua had managed to escape and found itself in the company of several young trainers and, learning of the poor creature's plight, the trainers decided to help it find its mother. Because almost no one else was present for the majority of the incident, few details are available as to what happened next. In the end, however, Grings' actions twenty years ago were finally exposed to public, resulting in his immediate arrest. It is believed that the young trainers, with the assistance of the Zorua, Zoroark, and the real guardians of Crown City, managed to drive back Grings from the time ripple and, with the help of the Zoroark's illusionary powers, caused Grings to knock himself out while entranced by an illusion. The Celebi that Grings was pursuing was able to time travel out of the area safely, causing the time ripple to disappear. In the aftermath of this incident, the Zorua and Zoroark were returned back to their home land through the help of some of the locals, and although it is unknown exactly where they are today, it can at least be assumed that they are living in relative peace once again.

Though they certainly might not be among the more common Pokémon one sees in the forest, it cannot be denied that Celebi are magnificent creatures that truly demand admiration and reverence beyond possessing the highest base stat total out of all Grass-type Pokémon (tied with Shaymin and Zarude). By protecting the forests of the world, these wondrous beings help shed light on the mysteries of nature, forcing the human race to ask time and time again where the balance between nature and progress lies and whether or not we have crossed it. If you ever have the chance to go looking for one of these creatures, be a good servant of nature and simply be with the forest in earnest; if you can find a balance between the past and the present…between life and machine...you'll almost be guaranteed to see one of these mystical guardians before your days are through!
