Chatot (the Music Note Pokémon) is an uncommon Normal/Flying-type Pokémon found among grassy plains and forests within the Sinnoh, Kalos and Hisui regions as well as the Johto, Hoenn and Unova regions on rare occasions. While they might not have much to offer in the way of combat effectiveness or defensive strength, Chatot are fascinating beasts that can easily make people unsatisfied with simple parrots happier than they could ever imagine. They may not be able to put up much of a fight in battle, but after listening to these beasts launch a Chatter attack, you'll be lucky if you can even keep a straight face!

By no means are Chatot considered to be extremely dangerous creatures in the wild and in battle. In fact, aside from a few basic physical attacks and techniques, Chatot really have little in the way of conventional attacks and are not strong enough physically to deliver much of a beating; the only conventional trait they have going for them is their relatively high mobility speeds, but even that isn't enough to ensure survival. Even so, however, Chatot have managed to survive in astounding numbers as a result of their ability to do exactly what trained parrots do: mimic others. In order to keep themselves safe from harm and predator detection, Chatot have developed a flexible larynx that can be stretched and shaped through muscle reflexes to produce an astonishing range of sounds, in turn allowing them to duplicate and utilize the natural calls and sounds produced by others creatures to confuse them and trick them into thinking that another one of their kind is in the area instead of a potential prey. While impressive by itself, what makes this feat even more interesting is that Chatot have a tongue shaped almost exactly like the human tongue and, in conjunction with their larynx, can actually produce sounds that would otherwise require lips to form, making them perfect imitators of human speech. This has made them extremely popular as pets among all sorts of people and relatively easy to own, as Chatot are quite intelligent and follows orders very well, and older specimens have been show to be capable of actually understanding the meaning behind the words they speak. In battle, this means that Chatot can utilize many sound-based attacks to an extremely effective degree and are well-known for their impressive Hyper Voice attacks. It is lastly noted that, because they can talk just like humans, Chatot tend to show an amazing ability for singing in human verse and are often called upon when professionals are scant to sing impressive melodies at major social events world-wide, using their note-shaped tails as a metronome for keeping beat.

Interestingly enough, Chatot have managed to learn how to use their capacity for human speech as a direct weapon in battle by blasting it so loudly that it Confuses any creature that manages to hears it; this strange attack, known as the Chatter attack, is completely unique to Chatot and is wholly dependent upon whatever word or phrase they like to speak the most from human language. Since the Chatter attack itself consists of nothing more than the user shouting its favorite human phrase loudly, it only has a moderate damage potential and is not strong enough to make Chatot a serious threat; even so, the attack's sheer confounding nature to most other Pokémon trying to understand human words coming from another Pokémon can actually inflict Confusion and will become more likely to do so the louder that Chatot shout. If anything else, this attack can at least make Chatot a potential surprise in battle when they are out of other options and can certainly give trainers on both sides a few laughs in the end. In addition, there vocal talents make Chatot the only Pokémon capable of learning the Confide technique naturally, which is a big benefit to them as a result of their fairly low special defenses.

Regardless of whether you like them for their brilliant coloration or wonderful voices, Chatot are interesting birds that can certainly make people looking to own an otherwise abnormal pet more than pleased. They may not be able to do much in battle without some serious help, but for the sake of survival, these little birds can certainly put up one heck of a fight if needed. If you want to keep things civilized, though, try not to say too may vulgar phrases in front of your Chatot; just like a small kid that really doesn't know what certain words mean, you have no idea when your Pokémon might decide to let out a few choice words that really shouldn't be uttered in public!
