Drowzee Report

Drowzee (the Hypnosis Pokémon) is a relatively uncommon Psychic-type Pokémon found among grassy fields and forests within the Kanto, Johto, Alola and Paldea regions as well as Berry Forest of the Sevii Islands and the Hoenn, Sinnoh and Unova regions on rare occasions. Although they may not be very fast, Drowzee are reliable Pokémon that specialize in putting their opponents to sleep in order to devour their dreams, making them a literal nightmare to deal with in battle. Unless you have a recurring dream that you want to see disappear completely from your mind, do your best to stay away from these beast in the dead of night; even if you have a nice dream, there is a good chance that you will never remember it!

According to myth, Drowzee are descendants of Baku, ancient creatures that fed on dreams (though biologically they are closely related to tapirs), which may explain their affinity for doing just that both in and out of battle. Drowzee enjoy putting others to sleep with Hypnosis so they can feed on their dreams (in fact, Drowzee were the first Pokémon witnessed using the Hypnosis/Dream Eater attack combo). In particular, Drowzee almost only ever eat the dreams of children, supposedly because their dreams are much tastier than the dreams of adults; as a result, they can often be found congregating around recreational facilities where they will attempt to eat the dreams of resting children that enjoyed themselves there that day. When it comes to their eating habits, Drowzee are extremely skilled at finding sleeping Pokémon and people as a result of sensitive psychic sensory organs within their trunks; a single twitch of their long nose is all it takes for them to find a sleeping creature and all it takes is a further sniff for a Drowzee to know what they are dreaming about. Unlike the members of the Munna family, however, whom they share a common ancestry with, Drowzee and their evolved form, Hypno, are unable to filter bad dreams and thus must be very careful about which dream they choose to devour; while they might find fun dreams to be tasty, if they accidentally devour an unpleasant dream, the unfiltered negative energy will make the dream taste sour and end up rendering these creatures sick. Drowzee also possess an incredible memory for dreams and will effectively remember every single dream that they ever eat, which helps them a great deal in distinguishing good dreams from bad ones. If you own a Drowzee for long enough and sleep next to it enough times, it may even share with you the most fun and delicious dreams they have ever eaten; such an occurrence is rare, though, and is often only seen among extremely trusting relationships. On the other hand, bad dreams have also been known to have been equally shared within less trusting relationships, so the point is probably moot.

Despite the fact that this may make many people uncomfortable, there are thankfully some tell-tale signs to determine whether or not waking up would be a good idea. For one thing, the use of their Dream Eater attack places these creatures in a temporary psychic link with their target, in turn linking them with where most of their extrasensory organs are located: their nose. As such, if one feels their nose itch for some strange reason while asleep, there is a good chance that they are currently in the process of having their dreams eaten. Moreover, if a person finds that they are unable to completely remember the dream they had the previous night, even with the help of hypnosis, it probably means that the dream was devoured and stolen by a Drowzee as well. Unfortunately, this does not make waking up suddenly and attacking a feeding Drowzee any safer, as they are able to defend themselves quite viciously with moves like Headbutt and Poison Gas if needed.

Although they are not commonly used in battle, Drowzee are great Pokémon that budding Psychics should get their hands on as soon as possible if they like to mix offense with defense. While they might not be as popular as Pokémon like Abra and Kadabra because of their limited offensive abilities, Drowzee are still fascinating creatures that can serve a vital role in any Psychic's team for their sheer diversity of moves and their ability to utilize status conditions to devastate the opposition. Of course, these strange beasts aren't just for Psychics only; if you just need a good night's sleep without any distractions, having one of these beasts around might not be a bad idea!
