Elgyem (the Cerebral Pokémon) is an uncommon Psychic-type Pokémon found among abandoned and haunted buildings within the Unova, Kalos and Galar regions and across much of the U.S. (though they are spread somewhat thin) as well as the Hoenn region on rare occasions. Though there may be relatively little known about these strange creatures, Elgyem are powerful creatures that possess impressive psychic powers that contrast sharply with their size and appearance. Regardless of their powers or abilities, though, one can't help but wonder where these strange creatures actually came from...at least for the fact that they don't seem to be too familiar with a planet they should be familiar with!

Neither Elgyem nor Beheeyem had ever been observed in the wild until over 50 years ago, when they suddenly appeared in extremely large masses within the deserts of New Mexico, supposedly about the same time an unknown craft of some sort crashed near their point of origin. Needless to say, many people were initially frightened by their appearance and did not take kindly to the small creatures; relatively few of those people actually remember the encounter or even survived it, however, as the psychic powers of the two species proved to be far more dangerous than anyone could handle. In time, the two species spread out across the U.S. and began forming small populations around and within abandoned and haunted buildings everywhere, especially outside major cities. These creatures are not hostile on their own, but their habit of observing humans (sometimes at too close of a proximity) has forced them into more than a few scuffles with local inhabitants, with many reported sightings of alien life forms on the planet being attributed to encounters with these strange creatures; unfortunately, these creatures rarely travel alone, so such encounters usually end in their favor. Communication with local life forms is rarely possible either, as their vocal patterns seem to be unrecognizable to both humans and other Pokémon; in order to communicate with one another, Elgyem and Beheeyem flash the colored crystals on their hands and thus utilize an advanced variety of Morse code, though said code has yet to be translated. The real issue at hand, however, is the exact origin of these creatures, which has baffled scientists for ages. Given their sudden appearance in such staggering numbers, the most likely origin would be one away from the planet they currently reside on; supporters of this hypothesis claim that the sudden appearance of these creatures in such large numbers cannot be explained by anything else other than a mass landing, thus making them extraterrestrials. In addition, when these creatures stand near television sets, they tend to make strange scenery appear on them, which some claim are images from the world that they come from. The U.S. government has been quick to deny such claims and continues to hold that opinion, but considering they pretty much do that for anything related to extraterrestrials, it cannot be assumed that this is the case. It can equally be said, however, that there is no real evidence linking these creatures to another planet, as there has been no evidence of them ever being seen with or even near a spacecraft of any sort. For now, it seems that the answer to their origin is merely an ambiguous mess.

While their psychic powers might not be as outwardly strong as those possessed by other Psychic-types, both Elgyem and Beheeyem are unique in that they can concentrate their psychic powers to levels far more intense than what is seen among Kadabra and even Alakazam; the only drawback is that their powers are at their strongest only when concentrated upon a single individual. By focusing their psychic powers, Elgyem are able to bombard opponents with waves of psychic energy so highly concentrated that they cause nerve cells to deform slightly, essentially 'squeezing' their opponents' brains; such actions can cause unendurable headaches within their victims, sometimes to the point of complete bodily paralysis. While their attacks may not be extremely damaging, Elgyem can easily incapacitate opponents of any size and shape with this power and potentially force them into a state of cerebral 'shock', rendering them incapable of battling for some time and making them a considerable threat in any battle.

Though they might look cute and completely harmless, Elgyem are powerful beasts that can easily make even the strongest of opponents cry out of pain and misery. What they lack in brawn and movement speed, these little critters easily make up for in sheer damage potential against a single opponent and the unique set of moves they learn. Young Psychics should be cautious about battling with one of these odd critters, especially if they want to build a strong partnership; make the wrong move, and you may find yourself on the receiving end of a major headache yourself!

I heard that for some reason Clefairies can understand their language.
