Fennekin (the Fox Pokémon) is an exceptionally rare Fire-type Pokémon found among fields and forested areas within the Kalos region and the Blueberry Academy Terarium as well as the Alola region on rare occasions. Though they might look like they are took cute to be a threat, Fennekin are surprisingly crafty beasts that can more than throw their hot air around in a battle. They may not have much in the way of move variety at a young age, but they can nonetheless give their opponents quite the hotfoot; just make sure not to get too close to their ears when they are angry, or you might find yourself taking a trip to the hospital for burn treatment!

Fennekin are among the more luxurious of Fire-type starters and are often adored by women for their luxurious fur and adorable appearance; in fact, some say that they are almost as elegant as the members of the Vulpix family, though this tends to be a controversial position to take in the world of Pokémon fashion. Much as with other Fire-type Pokémon, Fennekin possess a flame sac inside of their bodies that allows them to spew fire from their bodies in the form of attacks like Ember; they can even go as far as coating their bodies in fire to deliver a decent Flame Charge attack, though their weak physical offenses make this little more than an attack of desperation in most cases. With most Fire-types, young Pokémon are able to regulate their already high body temperatures by expelling hot air and steam out of their bodies; in the case of Fennekin, they are unable to do this with their respiratory system due to the unique anatomical location of their flame sac, which is just below their ears. To compensate for this, Fennekin breathe hot air out of their ears instead to regulate their body temperature. In order to protect their fur from being damaged by this heat, Fennekin possess large tufts of hair in their ears that act to absorb most of the thermal energy, in turn protecting the rest of their coat from being scorched by the intense heat, which can reach temperatures of up to 390 degrees Fahrenheit. This can be a bit of a problem for trainers that are not careful about taking notice of these things, especially if they do not treat their Pokémon well as Fennekin have a habit of blowing out large clouds of hot air as a form of intimidation.

Aside from their otherwise normal Fire-type powers, Fennekin and their evolved forms are noted for being unique in that they are actually born with inherent psychic powers; the only real problem is that Fennekin normally do not gain access to them in the form of offense until they manage to fully evolve. Even so, their powers often times lead them to use a particular form of food as a special snack, namely the twigs of poplar and especially willow trees. Later on in life, these foxes will learn to use these branches to amplify and concentrate their psychic powers to make them a devastating weapon on the battlefield, but at the moment, they are unable to do little but eat these branches. Still, they are able to quickly burn these twigs to create energy for their bodies, allowing them to recover fairly quickly from being heavily damaged or otherwise worn out in battle. Trainers should make note of this and be prepared to offer them anytime they see that their Fennekin is tired; this will prove to be especially important as they grow up, as it will eventually help to give them greater confidence and skill in using their dormant psychic powers once they are fully-evolved.

Though they might not be the best when it comes to taking or receiving physical damage, Fennekin are playful creatures that any young trainer can find great favor with in battle. With a decent array of moves at their disposal and the potential to truly become something grand in time, these beasts are the perfect choice for trainers looking to add some serious special offenses to their team. Just be careful not to get on their bad side if you can; a little hot air might not seem like a real problem, but at 390 degrees Fahrenheit, there is little that won’t be scorched once the tempers of these little critters flare up!
