Fletchinder (the Ember Pokémon) is an uncommon Fire/Flying-type Pokémon found among grassy fields and forested areas within the Kalos, Alola, Galar and Paldea regions and the Blueberry Academy Terarium. Though they might not be as intimidating as some other Fire-types, Fletchinder are unique creatures that can more than bring the heat in battle if prompted. You might not think much of their otherwise abnormal Fire-type powers, but you would still be wise to keep an eye out of them; after all, it’s not like there are many other Fire-type families that can still fly high in the sky with fireproof feathers!

The members of the Fletchling family represent one of the strangest bird Pokémon families out there as a result of their abnormal development and mutation as they evolve. Fletchling themselves are rather simple creatures and live just as ordinary robins do, they only major difference being that they are actually capable of being used in direct combat. However, when these creatures reach an intermediate stage of development and evolve, their entire anatomy changes radically and they end up losing their Normal-type assignment in the process. For reasons that are still unknown, it seems that Fletchling actually possess a flame sac in their bodies, but it is fairly inactive and sort of just sits around like an appendix outside of them being able to learn a weak Ember attack. When they evolve into Fletchinder, however, this sac finally starts to work effectively, and this change is so sudden that it completely replaces their Normal-type assignment, making them partial Fire-types instead and allowing them to immediately learn the Flame Charge attack as well as the Feint attack with a bit of artificial help. The reason for this strange evolution is still misunderstood and there is currently little data that explains this, but it seems that fossil relatives to the family may have had the flame sac initially in their development but lost use of it as infants over the course of several thousand years. Regardless, this makes the Fletchling family one of the few that can actually harness both the power of flight and fire to devastate their opponents, and although their otherwise moderate stats might not make this look like a serious issue, these beasts are tenacious predators that will take every and any opportunity to prove their worth in battle, even if it means taking down the opposition in a fiery blaze of glory in the process.

The moment after Fletchling evolve into Fletchinder, their dormant flame sac finally becomes fully active and these birds gain the ability to use the Flame Charge attack, as noted above. This is used more for feeding purposes than attack, however, as these birds can spew hot embers from their mouth to scorch grassland and burn it away or otherwise set the dens of other creatures alight, forcing out terrified insects and other small creatures that they can then finish off with their sharp talons and readily grill and eat without having to expend a lot of energy in the process. The heat from their flame sac allows these beasts to stay around in places such as the Kalos region even through winter, using their internal flame sac to keep their bodies warm in otherwise deathly-frigid temperatures. Moreover, this flame sac acts as an energy source of its own in that the hotter it is, the more energy that these birds can pump into their muscles and therefore the faster they can fly; their speed right after take-off alone puts them among the fastest of bird Pokémon in the entire world. The only drawback to this power is that the fire in their flame sac is not as strong as that seem in more traditional Fire-types, so it can take a while for the fire to really power-up and help these beasts get out in a jam. These birds can be so fiercely territorial and aggressive that they will not stand the presence of another Fletchinder within the border of their large territorial space, just over a mile in radius, and can thus be a pain to handle, but strict training regimes can easily turn these otherwise rambunctious birds into obedient partners, though they still might spew embers everywhere now and then just to intimidate other Pokémon that they see.

Despite not being among the most powerful of Fire-types, Fletchinder are fairly active creatures that won’t be afraid to burn their target just to prove that they are dangerous. It may take some training to get them to curb their more aggressive behaviors, but these large birds can nonetheless be made into fairly loyal partners provided their temper can be kept in check. Of course, things just might go south for some the moment these birds evolve; if you think that they were too hot to handle before, you’ll likely be set into panic the moment you see their fully-evolved form literally rain fiery destruction from on high!

Does Fletchinder remind anyone else of a Kookaburra? It's call is one of the only things that makes me go D'AWWW
