While it certainly might not be a move that most trainers will ever get to see used in battle, the Hyperspace Hole attack is a wicked little move that can easily get the drop on the opposition without them ever being able to prepare for it. Considered to be the signature attack of Hoopa in its Confined Form, the Hyperspace Hole attack involves the user generating a wormhole through body rings and then teleporting directly behind the enemy, delivering a concentrated burst of psychic energy in the process. This move may not be quite as powerful as other Psychic-type attacks, but for its sheer ingenuity, this attack is one worth fearing and can easily break through the barriers of the opposition as if they never existed to begin with.

Because they are able to generate wormholes at will, Hoopa have come to use their special powers to get the drop on opponents in and out of battle in order to turn the tide in their favor or at least escape from a battle unscathed. In the case of the Hyperspace Hole attack, Hoopa charge their bodies with psychic energy before generating a wormhole and forcing themselves through it; choosing their opponent as the target, these creatures instantly teleport themselves behind their target and release their charged energy in a single burst, dealing moderately high damage in the process before reentering their wormhole and reappearing back where they first started or perhaps a different location altogether. Because some energy is expended in the teleportation process, the damage that this attack deals is slightly lower than what might be seen in the more commonplace Psychic attack, but because of the nature of the spatial and temporal involved in this attack, this move has a nasty attribute that makes it a viable threat. Because of the instantaneous nature of the teleportation, Hoopa can actually strike an opponent the moment they try to put up a defensive barrier, so if a target uses a move like Protect or Detect to guard against an incoming strike, Hoopa can actually bend time to attack the exact moment before the shield was put up, bypassing it and any changes that have occurred in Accuracy and Evasion to either party in the process; this can be applied to any situation and essentially ensures that this attack will never miss. This can make the Hyperspace Hole attack the perfect weapon against defensive fighters and more than demonstrates the sheer power that these little fiends are capable of in battle, even if it might not be the most powerful of moves available.

Countering Hyperspace Hole: Due to its unique properties, there is no way to directly counter the Hyperspace Hole attack and it is almost impossible to dodge. Strong metallic armor can, however, help reduce or negate the damage dealt by this attack, but weaker metallic armor and rocky armor in general are unlikely to perform as well on their own. The Hyperspace Hole attack is not common enough for it to be much of a serious threat to most Pokémon, but if the opposition does have access to a Hoopa, strong defenses are recommended above all else to take the brunt of the attack’s force, as is not wasting time using moves like Protect or Detect (though initiating a counterattack may be impossible without breaking the laws of physics to do so).

Last paragraph, third sentence.

"...But if the opposition does have access to a Hoopla, strong defense is recommended..."
