Ing-based Obstacles and Research

Ingworm: These creatures are, as their name might suggest, massive Ing worms that have no ability to really attack or defend themselves but do not have to have anything like that anyways, as they are bred solely for the purpose of construction and are thus a prominent feature in every part of the Dark World aside from the Sky Temple. When Samus traveled to the Dark World, she found that there was much less ground to explore in the Dark World as there was in the Light World, and the Ingworms are the reason. These monsters can be trained to join together in order to form living shields that can block off passages or create structures where they might not be any in the Light World. They are completely harmless and cannot even cause basic contact damage, but their sheer size and incredibly durability nonetheless makes them an interesting creation of the Ing that can more than require a bit of backtracking to find a way to an area that is otherwise blocked off by their presence.

Webling: These Ing have the general appearance of webs (hence their name) and tend to be a bit of a pain for their habit of blocking block off access to areas in the Dark World. The Webling spins a network of energized snare lines and the sits in the center of the web and waits for prey to come to it, much like a spider; once a prey has been snagged, the Webling will radiate vast amounts of dark energy through its body to kill the prey before slowly absorbing them into its frame. Weblings are incredibly durable as a result of their body form and physical properties, but they absolutely abhor the light and can thus be destroyed with a single shot from a weapon like the Light Beam.

Ing Webtrap: The Ing Webtrap is a modified variety of the Webling that is designed to act not on its own accord but as a subservient for other, more powerful Ing. These creature will form over doors and other passageways in order to ensure that an intruder cannot escape, and they are virtually indestructible; only killing the Ing responsible for summoning them can get them to detach and fade away.

Ingclaw: This monster is a semi-rare type of Ing found in the Sky Temple Grounds and Dark Agon Wastes that has no real way of causing damage to others directly, though that does not mean that it is not a threat. The Ingclaw starts out as a small Ing Larva that quickly roots itself into a structure hours after birth and develops an incredibly durable shell shortly afterwards, slowly growing into an elongated, grape-shaped creature with a stout base that leads up to a single orifice at the top of their bodies as well as four large, horn-like mandibles that really seem to serve no purpose on their own. From the moment they form their initial shell, these creatures are rooted in place and feed off of the flotsam floating in the air of Dark Aether’s atmosphere, producing and releases a toxic, dark vapor as a form of waste. This vapor is extremely harmful to creatures that are in its path, and while the spray from a single Ingclaw isn’t a serious threat on its own, the combined power of several of them can quickly corrode and destroy armor that is not protected against the effects of Dark Aether.

Dormant Ingclaw: For reasons that are still unknown, Ingclaws will occasionally enter a strange torpor brought on by constant exposure to the atmosphere of Dark Aether and will become mentally and physically dormant, essentially going into hibernation. In this state, the creatures do not feed or expel their deadly vapor and thus have no way to defend themselves, but their shells are still indestructible against most predators and are thus still safe from direct attack.
A report on Ing-based obstacles and research. Enjoy.
