Name: Malva
Moniker: None
Region: Kalos
Role: Member of the Kalos League’s Elite Four
Type Specialty: Fire

BACKGROUND

While her professional background might not be the most well-known out of the entire Kalos Elite Four, Malva is definitely one of the more interesting characters and more than capable of bringing the heat into battle. As of right now, Malva is the only member of an Elite Four that was once a part of a major criminal organization that is also still a part of said Elite Four today, namely a member of Team Flare. Malva is known as one of the most popular Holo Caster reporters in the Kalos region and a trainer more than powerful enough to be considered a member of the Kalos Elite Four, but few know that she also served as the eyes and ears of Team Flare during the AZ Incident and was tasked with keeping the operations of the organization out of the public eye, quelling any attempts for regular citizens to share information on accidental run-ins with the organization using the power of the Elite Four. It is unknown what rank she actually had within Team Flare, but it is speculated that she may have been a high-ranking Administrator; regardless, she has more than proven in secret to know much about the research of the organization, including being one of the chief officers behind the development of the Expansion Suit (along with Xerosic). However, once the organization was forcefully disbanded by the destruction of the Reaper of Ambrotos and perhaps Lysandre himself, she was forced to retire her work up to the end of the Essentia Incident, when she was coerced by an International Police agent known only as Looker into revealing what information she had on the Expansion Suit in exchange for her actions with Team Flare being expunged from the record books completely. Today, Malva is still extremely agitated over the loss of the organization and is especially angry with the young trainer purported to be the one responsible for its downfall, a fury that only fuels her passion for battling and helps to make her the fieriest member of the Kalos Elite Four and definitely not an opponent worth ignoring under any circumstances.

BATTLE STRATEGIES

While the Fire-type is usually one best-associated with pure power, Malva is a bit more balanced than most other Fire-type specialists and is able to use a combination of offensive attacks and tactical moves to increase the overall combat performance of her Pokémon before unleashing destruction in battle. In comparison to other Fire-type specialists, the Pokémon that Malva use are also not completely recognized as the most powerful of Fire-type Pokémon, but she has nonetheless managed to use the power her Pokémon have to the utmost and is more than a bit gifted in utilizing her otherwise unorthodox fighter’s unique attributes to garner victory in battle. All of Malva’s Pokémon are more than capable of utilizing a decent variety of attacks, some more than others, and are able to take advantage of their own types quite well, though only a few of her Pokémon are able to use truly powerful moves outside of their type assignment. Even so, Malva is able to channel her own fiery spirit into her Pokémon and therefore is capable of heating up the battlefield herself, intensifying the fighting spirits of her Pokémon and pushing them beyond their normal limits when the time calls for it. Trainers looking to defeat Malva will have to bring more than a bit of water to best her in battle; she might not look like a problem, but if there is one thing this blazing beauty can do, its bring unexpected fire and might to the battlefield that other Fire-type experts lack.

PRIMARY POKÉMON

Torkoal: This beast may be as slow as a snail, but it is still more than capable of bringing some pain in battle. This creature will usually start things off by using its Curse technique to increase its physical attributes before striking from afar with its Earthquake and Stone Edge attacks or simply rushing into close quarters to deliver powerful Flame Wheel attacks. This tortoise can definitely take quite a physical beating, but a strong special-attacker can still take it down with little trouble.

Pyroar: This lioness might not look that intimidating to some, but this beast is still a fearsome fighter more than capable of delivering some significant damage in battle. This monster will generally resort to using its Noble Roar technique to lower the offenses of the opposition before attacking from a distance, safe from most attacks, with Hyper Voice, Echoed Voice, Flamethrower, Incinerate and Overheat attacks. If needed, this creature will also attack in close quarters for protection, striking with powerful Wild Charge, Endeavor and Crunch attacks. This feline is definitely a serious threat in battle with its wide diversity of moves, but its defenses are still not that high and can be taken out with strong offenses if halted before it really gets going in battle.

Chandelure: This menacing spirit is recognized as one of the most powerful of all Ghost-types, and Malva’s specimen does not deter significantly from this truth. Once it arrives on the battlefield, this monster will attempt to cripple the opposition with its Confide and Confuse Ray techniques before attacking from afar with Smog, Hex, Flame Burst, Flamethrower and Shadow Ball attacks. This monster is more than capable of dealing immense damage with its special attacks, but its defenses are thankfully only sub-par at best, so it shouldn’t be too hard to take it down with a few strong attacks as long as one can survive until then.

Talonflame: This bird might not be among the most powerful of Fire-type Pokémon, but Malva’s specimen is still more than capable of proving to be an annoyance in combat. This bird will usually start off by using its Tailwind technique to increase the overall mobility of Malva’s team before attacking with fierce Natural Gift, Quick Attack, Steel Wing, Flail, Flare Blitz, Flame Charge, Acrobatics, Razor Wind and Brave Bird attacks as well as a Me First technique if such an abnormal move is needed to clench victory. This bird might not be strong enough to take much in the way of damage, but if allowed, it can more than prove to be an agile threat that only the speediest of fighters will be able to keep up with and damage with any real effectiveness.

RESERVE POKÉMON

Malva does not possess any reserve Pokémon outside of the ones she uses regularly in battle.

OVERALL DIFFICULTY: 4/5

Although the Pokémon under Malva’s possession might not look like a serious threat to most trainers at first, Malva has done an excellent job of raising her Pokémon and is able to use their otherwise unorthodox powers to claim victory in even the most unlikely of circumstances. Her Pokémon are able to take great advantage of their natural Fire-type powers and are hard enough to battle on any solid surface, yet alone one that suits their tastes; as such, saying that they are not that versatile is a statement that only describes the different variety of types her Pokémon’s attacks cover. A simple type advantage cannot be counted on by itself to claim any sort of victory against Malva without some serious backup. It is noted, though, that while Malva has done more than her fair share of preparation, her Pokémon are all still weak to the same basic types and do not show a lot in the way of type variety, and while most of her Pokémon know at least a single move to help counter the types they are weak against, most of said attacks are better utilized by other Pokémon than by the ones they are granted to. Nonetheless, Malva has more than demonstrated herself to be a powerful opponent and is able to fuel both the spirits of her Pokémon and her own with a fiery passion that only seems to grow stronger with each battle, so to say that her position as a member of the Kalos Elite Four is suited for her is merely an understatement to the type of power Malva is capable of displaying in the right cases.

Malva is a disgrace to the Elite Four because she a member of Team Flare!

She needs to turn herself in and be tried in a court of law!
