BACKGROUND

AZ is a massively-tall man of many mysteries with little concrete evidence available to most on his identity, but speculation as to who he is abounds to the point where the blurred line between legend and reality is all that is apparent. Although many believe that it is merely a grand coincidence, it seems more than likely now that AZ is in fact the great king of Kalosian legend whose reign was abruptly ended by the firing of the ultimate weapon. 3,000 years ago, the Kalos region was ruled by AZ and was a peaceful domain for people and Pokémon alike, as AZ was the first to unite the Kalos region thanks in part to the advanced technology at his disposal and created a society where humans and Pokémon worked together for the benefit of both parties. Despite the fact that he was proud of his technology, however, AZ could not prevent its use in battle, and soon the region became the battleground of a great war against rival societies that wished to take the region's prosperity for their own. The war lasted for years and became so severe that AZ was forced to send his prize Pokémon into battle: a Floette that had become his best friend in the world after saving his life as a child. Instead of welcoming home his beloved Pokémon, however, what he got in return was a small box; in the act of trying to enforce his will for the good of the region, AZ’s Floette, the one thing that mattered more to him than any other living being in the world, had been killed in battle. Out of unspeakable grief, AZ went beyond what was deemed acceptable by even the standards of society today and built a machine, powered by the life energy of many sacrificed Pokémon (in turn making it compatible with the powers of the legendary Pokémon Xerneas and Yveltal), and used it to not only bring his beloved Pokémon back to life but grant it immortality; in the process, however, the machinery was contaminated and AZ was exposed to the energy as well, making him immortal. Although he had succeeded in reviving his lost Pokémon, AZ was still filled with fury over the destruction that had been brought to him. Acting now out of anger alone, AZ reconfigured the device, which is now called the Reaper of Ambrotos, into a weapon that could convert life energy into a devastating blast of focused energy capable of destroying anything that it hit. With this weapon, AZ fired a rain of destruction upon the land that caused a massive extinction event, wiping the Kalos region of most of its native inhabitants and destroying all of his enemies, ending the war in an instant. AZ’s Floette was so disgusted over the fact that the weapon had been powered by the life energy of Pokémon that it ran away, supposedly never to be seen again; AZ followed suit in pursuing the creature and vanished from all public sight. AZ’s younger brother, a warlord of his own that had come from afar with greedy companions looking to also take the region for his own, took a single look at the devastation his older brother had wreaked and could not bear to see it ever again. Fearing for the future of the region in his brother's absence and wishing that such devastation would never happen again, he buried the ultimate weapon so no one would ever be able to use it again, leaving AZ as the only human known to possess the key capable of making the ultimate weapon operational again.

3,000 years later, in the modern day, a descendant of AZ’s younger brother, named Lysandre, attempted to revive the ultimate weapon in order to create perfect beauty once again. As in the legends of the Kalos region foretold, Lysandre saw that the world had become full of despicable people that cared only about greed and power; the human population had become so large that everything was now fought over, and while there was more than enough to keep the world happy, people chose to steal and horde to deny others of what they deserved. In order to bring harmony back to the world, Lysandre wished to use the Reaper of Ambrotos to cleanse the world of human filth and reduce the human population, in turn destroying everything that had caused this suffering to begin with. In doing this, Lysandre realized that this meant destroying all Pokémon and all things related to them (including the Mega Rings) as well so they would not be fought over, an action that caused him great sorrow for he loved Pokémon with all of his heart, a trait that was more than proved when he managed to make his Gyarados Mega Evolve during the events of the AZ Incident. By sheer accident, Lysandre discovered AZ during his research into the ultimate weapon, captured him, and took the key to reactivate the Reaper of Ambrotos. Much as AZ had done, Lysandre planned on using the ultimate weapon in order to bring order back to the system, capturing the legendary Pokémon Xerneas and Yveltal and using their life energy to power the weapon once more. AZ was unable to stop him, but a young trainer managed to fight through the ranks of Team Flare and confronted Lysandre in the Team Flare Secret HQ, where they freed the legendary Pokémon from their bindings and defeated Lysandre before he could use his latest technological advancements to drain their power manually. Faced with inevitable defeat and only having enough energy left in the weapon for a single shot, Lysandre directed the weapon to fire at himself so he would not have to face the consequences of his failure; in the process, he destroyed the ultimate weapon and the main lab of Team Flare's Secret HQ. While it is believed that most of Team Flare and the trainer who stopped Lysandre survived, Lysandre himself was not observed in or outside of the wreckage, leaving his ultimate fate unknown. After the young trainer responsible for Team Flare‘s defeat challenged and beat the Kalos Pokémon League to become the new Champion, AZ appeared to the trainer and asked for a battle, wanting to fully understand what a Pokémon Trainer was. In defeat, AZ found that he was able to finally let the sins of his past go and move on...and as soon as this happened, after 3,000 years, AZ’s beloved Floette reappeared to him; after so many years of hatred and misery, AZ had become the caring man he had been before the weapon was ever built. From there, the two of them left the public eye and have not been seen since. It is doubtful that the last king of the Kalos region is gone for good, but it seems unlikely that he or his Pokémon will ever show their faces to the world again, if only to make sure that no one ever tries to rebuild the ultimate weapon.

OVERALL STRATEGY

Hard data on AZ’s battle strategies is currently unavailable due to the circumstances surrounding his sudden appearance and disappearance as of late. All that is known is that all of his Pokémon know the Return attack and are able to deal devastating damage with it as they all seem to possess maximum friendliness with their trainer, making the otherwise odd move an extremely dangerous asset to be aware of.

PRIMARY POKEMON

Torkoal: This beast seems to be quite ancient in age, even more so than normal, so it is possible that it may have been contaminated by the power of the Reaper of Ambrotos much like AZ, potentially making it immortal to some degree or otherwise in possession of an extremely-extended lifeline. This monster will generally rely on its Lava Plume and Stone Edge attacks to deal damage from afar while additionally striking in close quarters with its Body Slam and Return attacks. This monster can definitely take a lot of physical punishment, but it is nonetheless quite slow and therefore easy to target.

Golurk: This creature seems to be quite ancient in age, even more so than normal, so it is possible that it may have been contaminated by the power of the Reaper of Ambrotos much like AZ, potentially making it immortal to some degree or otherwise in possession of an extremely-extended lifeline. This automaton will generally waste little time in battle preparing itself, instead choosing to rush head-first in battle and attack in close quarters with powerful Mega Punch, Return, Heavy Slam and Phantom Force attacks. This giant is a lot larger than it looks and more than capable of dealing considerable damage, even if it is fairly old.

Sigilyph: This creature seems to be quite ancient in age, even more so than normal, so it is possible that it may have been contaminated by the power of the Reaper of Ambrotos much like AZ, potentially making it immortal to some degree or otherwise in possession of an extremely-extended lifeline. This odd monster will generally start off by using its Cosmic Power technique to raise its stats before attacking with Psychic and Air Slash attacks from afar, occasionally relying on its Return attack in close quarters when needed. This monster might not look that sturdy, but it still has a lot of fight in it and is definitely capable of making things difficult for opponents in battle.

RESERVE POKEMON

AZ does not possess any reserve Pokémon outside of the ones he uses regularly in battle.

OVERALL DIFFICULTY: UNKNOWN

Hard data on AZ’s overall skill level is currently unavailable due to the circumstances surrounding his sudden appearance and disappearance as of late.

REWARDS FOR DEFEAT

There are no rewards for defeating AZ, other than the potential bragging rights associated with beating the last king of the Kalos region in battle.
