Liepard (the Cruel Pokémon) is an uncommon Dark-type Pokémon found among grassy fields and cities within the Unova, Kalos and Galar regions and most of the United States. Quick-footed and exceptionally cruel by nature, Liepard are vicious creatures that enjoy deceiving opponents with their gorgeous looks before delivering nasty blows from the comfort of darkness. These felines might not have much in terms of pure strength or defense but, if you don't plan accordingly, these animals will gladly run circles around your Pokémon before tearing them apart!

Liepard are revered among collectors for their luxurious fur and supple body shapes, as they give off a certain air of both elegance and superiority; more importantly, these traits make them especially popular among Pokémon Contests and cat shows world-wide. Much like Purrloin, Liepard act surprisingly similar to normal cats and are easily housebroken, making them more popular as house pets than actual combatants; unfortunately, their large size makes them difficult to deal with in normal households, so they are far more common among the lavishly large homes of the rich than anywhere else. They are also much more difficult to satisfy than the traditional housecat, so owners looking to keep their Pokémon in good mental condition will have to be creative to keep their Liepard happy.

However, Liepard are far more vicious than Purrloin and are to be treated with extreme caution at all times. The devious nature possessed by Purrloin is wholly replaced in Liepard by one of pure malice and cruelty, making them extremely vicious and temperamental and difficult to train without professional assistance; this is directly reflected in their inability to learn the Captivate technique, instead learning the Taunt technique in its place. Liepard will do just about anything to get what they want, even if it means attacking their own trainer or innocent bystanders; moreover, they tend to be revengeful when they feel they have been wronged in any way and will gladly deal out a little painful justice to whatever or whomever may be nearby. Just as with Purrloin, though, these creatures' magnificent looks and unique muscle structure, which seems to be anatomically designed solely to maximize the swiftness and elegance of their appearance, are usually quite effective at softening their victims and allowing them to get away with their crimes. Liepard are just as refined at using their looks as a distraction in battle, as their unique fur pattern allows them to blend in with surrounding shadows so well that they appear almost invisible. Liepard will wait under this dark cover until their opponent approaches, at which point they will silently but quickly strike without warning before vanishing into the darkness once again; considering their impressive movement speed, Liepard can often defeat opponents with this sort of tactic without ever getting hit once. Unfortunately, if they must battle in a brightly-lit area, Liepard have little in the way of tactical advantages and will be unable to do any serious damage against more powerful opponents, putting them at odds with Pokémon like Thievul in the Galar region, with whom they fight over territory with.

Though they might appear to be more about looks than power, Liepard are nonetheless vicious creatures that can tear apart opponents that are not strong enough to resist their clawing attacks. Whether you are a Pokémon Coordinator or simply a trainer looking to add a little speed to your team, Liepard can make great companions in the long run…if you can get over their cruel demeanors. Just be careful about how you treat them while training, especially if you plan to show them off in a Contest; they might look fine regardless, but you certainly won't look too good on stage once you've been on the receiving end of a few too many Night Slash attacks before it's your turn in the spotlight!
