Neo Media Dimension

Total number of Hub Worlds: 6
Total number of level areas: 36 (The sum total of Gex’s name in alphanumerical code)

Description: The product of ReRun’s creation, the Neo Media Dimension is a radically different world than the one that Gex first stepped foot in 21 years ago, thanks in part to ReRun’s unique perspective on his home and the way in which it should be run. This universe is linked through the television-and-remote-based operating system designed by Rez many years ago, but the size of the universe has grown so large that much more than just a few remotes are needed to access the many words that comprise this new alliance of worlds. Most of the worlds gathered here are revitalized realms from Rez’s past operations, but ReRun has done his best to include quite a few new worlds as well in order to modernize the Neo Media dimension, and he has managed to blend them with the old channels quite well…though some worlds have been refuted by ReRun and left to rot in eternity with what little power they still have left in them.

What follows is a brief descriptive list of the Hub Worlds and individual television worlds that are now part of the Neo Media Dimension as well as the collective items that can be found in them, including the number and types of remotes that can be collected. As a general rule of thumb, however, it is noted that each individual world that is not solely designed for a major boss encounter has a total of five remotes that can be recovered (with one being assigned as hidden, only available after collecting all of the Fly Coins in a level). Bosses for regular levels will be listed in a separate list, as will specialty costumes available for Gex in each level and any associated powers.

Collectibles:

Basic Collectibles:

Fly Coins: Though they were only used by Rez originally as a way of attracting Gex into his twisted labyrinth of traps and nightmarish worlds during his first few encounters, in the Neo Media Dimension, Fly Coins were included by ReRun solely because of the sense of nostalgia they seem to bring back…mainly for Gex’s benefit. These odd coins, for Gex, serve as the life essence that allows him to maintain his real, physical form despite the crazy laws of reality that often govern the worlds of the Neo Media Dimension. Most can be found simply lying about, but some can also be recovered from enemies upon defeating them. Collecting 50% of all the Fly Coins in a level will award Gex an Extra Life, while collecting all of the Fly Coins in a level will reveal a hidden remote in said world and bring it to Gex for his efforts.

Extra Lives: These items are much more uncommon than Fly Coins as a result of ReRun’s tidying up, but the few that are left behind in worlds can mean a great deal when Gex is on the ropes and needs an insurance policy to make sure that he can come back swinging after a bad fight. These items will give Gex and extra attempt at completing a level or defeating a boss and will start him off at the last Checkpoint TV he struck.

Paw Coins: These gilded items are scattered among the depths of the Neo Media Dimension and have little power on their own to help Gex, but in large numbers, they can do amazing things for his health and vitality. Collecting one of these coins will refill Gex’s hit bar with an extra paw print if damaged, and when [Amount Undetermined] are collected, they will extend Gex’s hit bar by an extra paw print.

Remotes:

Standard Remotes: These mysterious objects serve as currency in the Neo Media Dimension and are the only way Gex can access the many words that have been reborn and created by the hands of ReRun. In large numbers, the signal projected from these devices can open the dimensional wormholes that are contained within large TV sets and in turn are the only way for Gex to access most of the Neo Media Dimension. These items are scattered across both normal levels and Hub Worlds and can either be found out in the open or must be earned by completing a specific objective in a level. There are 200 basic remotes in the Neo Media Dimension, and while collecting them all is not necessary, there is no telling what strange secrets and special worlds that these devices can enable passage to when present in large numbers.

Gold Remotes: These gilded objects possess a very powerful signal that enables Gex to activate portals to new Hub Worlds and in turn are the only way for him to progress through said worlds. There are only five of these remotes in existence at the moment, and they are all guarded by the strongest warriors of ReRun’s side, making them extremely difficult to obtain. Without them, however, Gex has no chance of stopping ReRun’s plans before they go too far.

Planet X Remote Fragments: Much as Rez did when he originally created Planet X, Neo Planet X can only be reached by assembling a special remote that has been split into eight pieces and flung into the deepest depths of the Neo Media Dimension. These remote fragments are not easy to find and can only be located in the ruined remains of The Dome’s worlds, requiring Gex to step far into the past and face some of his worst nightmares in order to get access to ReRun’s domain.

Neo Media Dimension Overlook

Hub World 1: New World Hub
Remotes Hidden: 3
Description: Much as its name suggests, this Hub World is designed as a visitor’s center for new arrivals to the Neo Media Dimension. Aside from a few basic necessities like computer terminals and furniture, there is not much to this world, as ReRun has not finished preparing it for eventual visitors to his new realm following the merging of the Neo Media Dimension and the real world. The colorful paint and relaxing furniture almost makes this odd layout warm and inviting, but the giant TVs set the mood off a bit and reminds those who are visiting that they are definitely not in Kansas anymore. This Hub World is the perfect place for Gex to get reacquainted with his moves and both his combat and exploratory skills, with all sorts of nooks and crannies to explore. The worlds contained here might be among the easiest that Gex has ever encountered, but that doesn’t mean that ReRun hasn’t thrown in a few new surprises to keep our gecko on his toes at all times.

Neo Toon TV
Remotes Needed: 1
Description: This world contains all of the kid-friendly and cute cartoon characters of both the past and the present and seems like an inviting world, but looks can more than be deceiving when in the context of ReRun’s control. Animated fences, singing teapots, crazed clowns and all other sort of insane architecture and enemies have gone mad being stuck in their jolly little world, and many of them are ready to snap at anyone that dares to disturb their daily work. Though they might not seem that dangerous, the denizens of this world have it out for Gex and will utilize the magical power of imagination and Hammerspace to wipe the floor with him and crush him under the weight of a steel anvil. Even crazed hunters are rumored to occupy the forested portions of this world, looking to put a living bullet in any animal that dares to walk in front of them. Gex will have to get over the cutesy appearance of this world if he hopes to grab the remotes hidden inside, but in comparison to some of the stranger things he has seen, this world is nothing special. Just make sure to stay away from the doghouses if you want the gecko to not get ripped to shreds by the angry mutts that seem to be hidden around every corner.

Neo Holiday Broadcast
Remotes Needed: 3
Description: Ripped straight from every single Christmas special to ever air on television, this winter wonderland is filled with many holiday-themed threats, including rabid snowmen, living presents, evil elves and yetis that want to do nothing more than rip Gex in two. The cold conditions are not exactly ideal for a cold-blooded animal like Gex, but the cold is the least of his problems, as much of the area is also covered in slippery ice that can send him plunging into the abyss if he doesn’t watch his footing. Gex will get the chance to put his skills to test here, however, climbing up frigid slopes and riding down massive hillsides on a snowboard while dodging present-throwing elves the whole time. If he chooses to be really naughty, he might even get some alone time with Evil Santa and in turn the chance to kick some monster butt just like he used to. Caution is recommended for those who are not patient, however, as cold winds often deep across the plains of this area and will fling those with poor footing right of the edge of the world. Keep your toes stuck to the walls and your ears open, because the only thing you might here before being frozen solid by a yeti monster is the sounds of footsteps as they sneak up behind you and try to make you into their next frozen meal.

Music Montage
Remotes Needed: 5
Description: A new world created by ReRun himself, this world is basically the equivalent of taking an entire orchestra and having them perform in the fires of oblivion. Giant notes and music sheet symbols serve as steady platforms, while giant instruments act to both give Gex a way of traversing the giant abyss this worlds floats in and a threat, as they will spew out a constant stream of music-themed monsters to carry out their dirty work. Here, sound is more of a threat than sight, as the background music itself will suddenly shift from upbeat music to crushing metal whenever powerful monsters approach, though sometimes it might try to just fake out Gex in order to distract him. With so little ground to stick on, Gex will have to rely on his climbing skills in order to get out of this orchestral nightmare, but even then he needs to be careful to not get swept away by the monstrous sounds that echo from giant wind instruments scattered across the realm. Those who are sensitive to loud noise might want to think twice about entering this world unprepared, lest they find themselves with blown eardrums and an inability to recover the remotes that are scattered among the clouds that float by.

Neo Mystery TV
Remotes Needed: 7
Description: Ripped straight from the pages of a number of mystery novels, this world places Gex in the role of a gumshoe and forces him to use his brain more than his tail to enact his operations. Puzzles are aplenty in this dark mansion and secrets are hidden just about everywhere, especially in the numerous statues and figureheads that are scattered across its breadth. Aside from the strange and often times hidden monsters that occupy the main building, there is a hedge maze out back crawling with monsters ready to take a bit out of Gex, even though some of them would rather just shoot him like an animal and be done with it. There is even an elaborate series of tunnels in the basement of this complex and they are haunted by ghosts of all sorts…or so legend says. Exploring every inch of this word will prove to be a difficult task for Gex, but if he finds himself in a bit of a conundrum, there are small minigames scattered about that can give him hints as to where to go next, provided that he can complete them in a timely fashion. He may even find himself reprising an old role if he can find the means to do so, as there is the potential here for him to assume his DracuGex form, a rare power that can help him glide across large distances and in turn grant him access to the most inaccessible portions of this surprisingly large world.

Neo Scream TV
Remotes Needed: 9
Description: Filled with all of the horrors and frights that one can imagine, this word is a living nightmare and will do whatever it takes in order to scare and confuse Gex to the point of passing out. With reject monsters based on popular horror characters and a striking lack of light illuminating most of its corridors, this world has less of the puzzles emphasized in other worlds and instead focuses on straight action, though some occasional puzzle solving may be needed to avoid the numerous traps and pits that adorn the upper areas of this world. Thankfully these beasts are no more frightening to Gex than they were ages ago when he effectively destroyed this world, an action that some of the worlds’ older denizens still remember to this day. Gex will need to make his way past lumbering giants, murderous dolls and giant bats among others horrors to find the remotes hidden in the crevices of this realm, but he will still need to be quick on his toes, as ReRun hasn’t gotten around to fully repairing the world and parts of it are old and ready to fall apart at any second. The only true threat that Gex will have to contend with here is the dark, as there are few candles in this decrepit realm and the light that they provide will only last a short time; as such, he will have to keep moving and hope that he doesn’t get caught in the dark, lest a Reaper come forth and end his life with a single swing of its scythe.

Game Show Extravaganza
Remotes Needed: 12
Description: This bright and cheerful world might seem like all fun and games, but away from the harsh artificial light that bathes this world, it can easily be seen why this realm can be a problem for those that are not the best when it comes to knowing trivial things. Flashing lights and colored wheels spin endlessly, putting out both money and punishment to anyone that dares to test their luck on them. Trivia cards and loud buzzers are at every single corner, and for those that cannot keep in lockstep with their movements and answer their question correctly, there is only a mountain of death awaiting them, usually in the form of a giant saw hidden beneath the floor panels. Gex will need to use more than his brain to get through this realm, as while the denizens themselves are effectively harmless and pose no serious threat, the death machines and lottery balls they ride around in are more than capable of squashing and slicing Gex into the next turkey dinner at Thanksgiving. Winning remotes here might be up to more luck than anything else, but as long as no one is looking, a bit of cheating will serve Gex well as he tries to usurp his otherwise unfairly-gifted opposition.

Neo WWGex Wrestling
Remotes Needed: 15
Description: This world is the primetime when it comes to action in the New World Hub and serves as the proving grounds for anyone that thinks they have the gusto to handle ReRun and the rest of his army. Here lies Neo Rock Hard, a general from one of Rez’s old armies that has been given a second chance at taking down the gecko hat has foiled so many of their plans. This monster might not look like anything special, but if Gex wants access to the Gold Remote the villain has been entrusted with, he will need to go toe-to-toe with him and prove once and for all that brawn is only a small part of what makes a real warrior a threat.

Hub World 2: Sky-High Station
Remotes Hidden: 3
Description: This weather station is positioned in the middle of the abyss and has no solid footing for travelers to step on, making it a hazard to effectively any creature or machine that lacks the ability to fly. The giant TVs that adorn this station are isolated to small platforms and just getting to them can be a chore, but thankfully there is little wind here, so traversing the otherwise thin catwalks is less of a stress than it could be. The various instrumentation here can be employed to change the weather from clear skies to rain, hail or even a heat wave, allowing Gex to bend the station to his will and use the environmental effects of such conditions to activate different parts of the station and access all of its secrets. Gex will still need to be careful about how he goes about his mission, however, as all it takes is a single misplaced jump to send the poor hero crashing back down to whatever land lies far beneath him.

Neo Sea Span
Remotes Needed: 15
Description: This underwater world is based off the sinking of the Titanic, though any resembles that it once bore to the tragedy has been lost to the monstrous underwater denizens that have come to call this place home. Giant sea monsters and mermen fight viciously to keep land-walkers out of their territory, and while some of them can be reasoned with and interacted with, most will want to do little more than try and spear Gex as he swims. The fact that Gex has only a limited supply of air can make this environment more than a bit dangerous to explore, as oxygen refilling units are scarce and can only give out a limited supply of oxygen before they manage to run out. Even so, there is still the remains of a wreckage here, and while it might not provide much of a breath on the inside, it is more than likely that there might be more than a few secrets hiding within the depths of the ship. Gex will have to brave the darker depths of this world to find all of the secrets contained within, but a great word of caution is noted; while most of the standard enemies that protect this realm will not travel to such depths, that is only because it is the home of a giant squid that will be more than happy to rip Gex to shreds if he cannot avoid its monstrous grasp.

Neo Tut TV
Remotes Needed: 18
Description: Set back in the times of ancient Egypt, this world is filled with sand, statues and gorgeous architecture that almost makes it seems like one has really traveled back in time. Sadly, this does not make this world a friendlier place, as it is filled with mummies, beetles and all sorts of other monsters that have made it their mission to protect the secrets of this complex for all of eternity, even beyond death. With traps hidden in the most unlikely of places and monsters secured in deep cells within deeper levels, Gex, will have to think on his feet and be willing to use both his climbing skills and the help of an occasional camel in order to traverse the sands and ruins that have become home for a few remotes. Even so, this journey will not be as easy as it had been before, as ReRun has made sure to hide the doors to several areas completely from sight; only with the help of crystals and light beams will Gex be able to fully unlock this realm, and even then some secrets may only hide enemies itching for a fight. Gex will just have to be careful not to awaken some of the more powerful denizens of this realm as he climbs through tombs and fire traps; they might not be the strongest of monsters, but with the power of magic on their side, there is little that these beasts cannot do to zap and deep-fry Gex if he can’t keep them from casting powerful spells at him.

Psychedelic Station
Remotes Needed: 21
Description: Gex might not be the kind of guy that likes to take a lot of drugs, but he won’t have much of a choice once he steps into this trippy world. With bright colors flashing everywhere, trippy music playing in the background and platforms that seem to move on their own, those that come to this realm will more than likely feel like they took some really bad acid and are on the verge of dying. Monsters appear and disappear randomly without question and some of them might not even be real, though telling what is and what isn’t real in this realm is more difficult than one might expect. Luckily for Gex, his special costume and rose-tinted glasses will allow him to see through the fog and observe things both hidden behind structures and just plain hidden altogether, revealing invisible platforms and enemies before they have the chance to trick the gecko into making a stupid move. Even so, he will need to keep his eyes peeled, as many of the structures that seem fixed to the ground are actually quite mobile and may even run away from Gex if he cannot find a way to keep them from moving at all. The remotes hide here will likely be in places where you would never suspect, or they might be; it’s different for everyone that goes there. The only thing that will be in common with all travelers is the fact that the rules of reality rarely ever apply here, and the sooner one can figure that out and be ready to do some seemingly absurd jumping and exploring, the better.

Neo Army Channel
Remotes Needed: 24
Description: There really is nothing quite like the smell of napalm in the morning, and it’s a smell that one is going to have to get used to if they want to survive this battle zone. Here, the main military force of ReRun is positioned to protect his secret documents and weapon stockpiles, and while Gex may have fared well against the armies of Rez, he will have to take it up a notch if he has any hope of surviving this mine-riddled battlefield. Living grenades travel around the battlefield and explode at the slightest content, while buff soldiers fire machine guns and try to use long-distance grenade to smoke the gecko out of any foxholes that he might be hiding in. Thankfully, Gex’s special army gear allows him to fight fire with fire and use machine guns as well, allowing him to pick off living grenade and other enemies from a distance. Even if he finds himself outgunned and in some serious trouble, Gex will not have to go far to find a tank perfectly ripe for stealing and operating. It might not be the fastest way to travel, but it can often destroy just about any barricade put up by the opposition, though it can be a risk if it blows up while Gex is still in it. Grueling combat is the norm in this world and it can get pretty intense, but as long as Gex can keep a level head and not buckle under the pressure, there is hope that he may be able to see this mission through to the end.

Neo Kung-Fu Theatre
Remotes Needed: 27
Description: Set back in the times when ninjas and samurai were actually pretty common, this world is the perfect example of what happens when you take every martial arts movie that has ever been made and cram them together. With ninjas and samurai monsters aplenty and spinning death traps that require considerable finesse to get past, this realm will prove to be a serious challenge to Gex if he cannot master his basic movement controls and attacks to get past such obstacles. Thankfully, Gex has seen more than his fair share of movies and is more than prepared for this job, as his signature Tail Kick can often prove to be the best way to clear many of the pitfall traps that are situated throughout this world. Armored samurai can still be a challenge as their armor protect them from direct damage, but Gex can still make their heads roll if he can find a way to make them reveal a vulnerability. The enemies that occur this realm might not be as fierce as the traps that make progress difficult, but unless Gex can keep himself from being surrounded, he might not make it out alive to find the few remotes hidden here. Given his experience, though, Gex should have no problem with this and should be able to easily make himself into a Kung-Fu expert as long as he can move to the beat and find his inner strength to prevail.

Medieval Primetime
Remotes Needed: 30
Description: Set in the times of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, this world is no legend and its enemies are nothing that even brave warriors can scoff at. Set in the depths of a castle, this world is filled with its fair share of traps and tricky puzzles, but it is its monsters that really make it a frightening world to behold. Knights, even long after their earthly demise, roam the corridors of this structure and will violently attack anything that dares to cross paths with them. Thankfully, they are effectively benign as long as they don’t make direct eye contact with Gex, so some stealth will be required in order to make sure our hero can keep himself from being impaled on a lance. Sorcerers live in the lower levels of the castle and can use potent magic spells to burn, freeze and even electrocute Gex from afar, but they are thankfully unable to do much to him in close quarters. Furthermore, the few bats and ogres that roam the halls are little more than big babies, as the shine of direct light is enough to stun them. Unfortunately, these monsters are not so easy to deal with when they are working together, which will require our armored hero to think carefully about what enemies to attack first, lest they gang up on him and make mincemeat out of them. Of course, this all pales in comparison to the ravenous dragon that occupies the roof of the castle, which has been known to incinerate lesser creatures with its fiery breath as if they put up no fight at all. Gex will have to get in touch with his inner warrior if he wishes to survive this gauntlet, as even sturdy armor will not be enough to protect him once he finds himself cornered or imprisoned in the dungeons below.

Toxic Terror
Remotes Needed: 34
Description: This abandoned waste dump has little to offer Gex in terms of normal collectibles, but oddly enough, it is the home of a vicious creature that has been given access to a Gold Remote. The Behemoth Blob that has been born of radioactive waste here is a vicious creature to be sure as it can mold its body into a number of shapes in order to attack Gex in different ways, proving to be more resourceful than the likes of most of ReRun’s army. With a Hazmat suit in tow, though, Gex still has a chance of taking down this murderous blob if he thinks carefully, as the heart of the beast will periodically appear when the creature needs to take a breath, making it the perfect opportunity to put the hurt on this abomination.

Hub World 3: Chaos Caverns
Remotes Hidden: 3
Description: Located deep beneath the surface of some foreign alien world, this dungeon-like abode is home to massive limestone structures and beautiful rivers, but its beauty is shaded by the fact that it is used as a Hub World by ReRun and is also filled with toxic waste containers that have been stored here as a safety measure. Thankfully, there is nothing for the gecko to fear as they are sealed tight, though the smell that thy give off is still enough to make anyone sick after a little while. The damp conditions make it difficult for TVs to operate here, but ReRun has done his best to use hydraulic pumps to clean the water out and keep it as dry as possible, with the exception of a small lake at the northern end of the Hub World. The fact that there is no music playing here mans that every single scuffle and drip can be heard from a mile away, making the silent atmosphere tense for no serious reason. Gex will have to carefully navigate the tunnels that crisscross through this area if he wants to access more worlds, and in turn hope that he does not get lost in the darkness.

Neo Western Station
Remotes Needed: 34
Description: In this world, the great days of the Wild West were never forgotten and instead became the theme upon which all life has been based on and subjected to. With desert sand and rocky cliffs aplenty, this place is mainly crawling with monsters that one might expect to see, including scorpions, vultures and the occasional gunslinger looking to duel someone to the death. Ghosts have even been observed to crop up around the local cemetery, and they are usually more of a threat than the living if only because they can be very hard to kill…again. What this world lacks in enemies and serious traps, it makes up for with an expansive environment and dangerous hazards when traveling across pits and around the sides of mountains, usually with little in the way of a guardrail or other form of protection to keep visitors from plummeting into the abyss. This world has not changed much since Gex last visited it, but that matters little as it is still a dangerous place to visit, with some hillsides and mountain walls being so steep that only a trusty burro will be able to get him to the remotes hidden here. If anything else, though, Gex can take a break and enjoy seeing the world’s largest mound of poop, though its slippery surface might make any journey to there a sickening experience almost not worth undergoing to find the objects hidden in said mound.

Neo Buccaneer Program
Remotes Needed: 38
Description: The life of a pirate might be a great adventure, but there comes a point where death and greed can be carried too far, as they clearly are in this high-seas world. Here, all of the pirates are deceased but still more than lively, and they are ready to slice apart any boarder that dares to try and take the treasure that they have been protecting for ages. Traps, enemies and obstacles alike, however, are no match for Gex, as his special pirate outfit allows him to use cannons to blow hoes in enemies and reveal structures hidden in the depths of the massive pirate ship he is now caught within. Even so, cannon ammunition is limited and there are more than just pirates to worry about, as ghosts haunt the depths of the ship and parts of it are so old that they are beginning to crumble, making serious movement in the upper levels of the ship and the deck only for those with serious trapeze skills at their disposal. Despite the obvious danger posed by this ship, it shouldn’t be too hard for Gex to keep his wits about him as long as he can keep himself from walking the plank, though Davy Jones may be more than willing to use his own hands to send our hero straight to a watery grave.

Reality TV Land
Remotes Needed: 42
Description: It seems odd that ReRun would decide to make an entire world based just on the concept of reality TV, but it may have something to do with his love of the series Big Brother. Either way, this world is definitely not your typical world, nor are the strange denizens that are forced to act out the same stupid episodes over and over again. From muscle-heads to dancing stars to Survivor rejects, this place is packed with odd enemies that can pose a challenge if only because the manner in which they have to be defeated can feel awkward and a bit confusing. The world itself has no fixed form, instead warping from apartment buildings to battlefields to kitchens to playhouses and so forth, with any one area only being stable for a limited amount of time. Gex will have to look deep into the history of TV to figure out what is going on here, and if he manages to get on a show, he will have to keep himself in top shape if he wants to survive to the next episode. The fourth wall breaks that happen frequently here can be annoying to some, and the sheer variety of environments stitched together here makes it almost impossible to say what kind of reality will be next; let’s just hope that Gex can adapt to the situation accordingly when the word suddenly shifts, or he may find himself leaving the island and entering straight into the abyss.

Neo Circuit Central
Remotes Needed: 47
Description: Set in a world that is not quite reality but not quite Tron, this computerized world shrinks Gex down to an extremely small size in order to place him inside the parts of a massive computer, though where he goes to from there is up to him. Viruses and defensive programs roam the circuits and towers of this land and will violently zap and devour anything that does not fit into their database of knowledge, one that has been inconvenient wiped of all knowledge of our hero. If the enemies do not prove to be a problem, then it will be the firewalls that make life hell, as there name should be taken literally for their ability to instantly vaporize any being that dares to cross their path. Thankfully, Gex is not completely helpless in this world, as he can use his computerized suit to travel between data nodes and effectively warp across the breadth of this world, making travel a breeze…as long as he doesn’t run into a bomb node on his longer journeys. Gex will have to shut down the defensive systems of this world and change the flow of power in certain parts in order to reveal and close off different parts of the realm, and if he cannot keep track of what switches do what, he may find himself in a bit of a data jam quickly. Thankfully, the pretty music helps to offset the dire mood of this world, and this should be easy in comparison to some of the things Gex has done before, though the occasional bar magnet dropping from the ceiling may still ruin his chances of a clean victory.

Neo Pre-History Channel
Remotes Needed: 52
Description: Taking place back in ancient times, this prehistoric world is filled with danger aplenty, as cavemen and dinosaur clichés battle constantly in an attempt to conquer the world for their own devices. The cavemen denizens are not very smart and can be a pain in the butt to deal any damage to, but they are actually benign most of the time and are some of the few Neo Media Dimension residents that Gex can work with to obtain secrets hidden from most eyes (mainly by them throwing Gex up to reach high places that are otherwise inaccessible). On the other hand, the dinosaur monsters (Gex’s Cave Gecko relatives included) are not intelligent at all and will ruthlessly attack anything that they consider a meal, though if Gex plays his cards right, he might be able to secure one as a ride to bash through large boulders and other obstacles blocking his pathway. Even if the denizens don’t kill them, cheap deaths may, as this land is filled with lava from an active volcano that can scorch Gex instantly upon contact, as well as pitfalls and spike traps that can prove to be a messy burden when Gex is trying to climb up cavern walls. Patience will go far in this world and careful planning can easily see one through to the end, but caution is still recommended; it won’t take much to aggravate the beasts living here, and unless Gex can find a way to get one side to fight another exclusively, it is more than likely that our hero may end up getting hurt in the crossfire.

Static Maze
Remotes Needed: 57
Description: To call this a true world is a bit of a lie, as this place does not have anything much in the way of real denizens; effectively, it is a realm of white noise created by ReRun to be as such in order to confuse Gex, even going so far as to throw a few remotes into it for a bit of incentive. This labyrinth is constructed from walls of static that glow an eerie light in the dark; in fact, they are the only source of light in the world at all, making it difficult for one to get there bearings at any time. Aside from being an enormous maze filled with secrets, though, it is also one filled with traps, with sections of the maze opening and closing at the slightest provocation and even pieces of the walls tearing themselves out of place to attack, taking the shape of the hero Gex before attacking him with a selection of his own moves. This world will test Gex’s memory to the extreme and will force him to think out his actions before strolling down a path, as some will lead him to nowhere or even a death trap where there is no way to escape. It is said that many have come to this world only to remain perpetually lost, and as the skeletons hidden in some corners of the realm will attest, that is more than enough reason to fear this place, even if the only sound that one can hear is the hissing of the static walls surrounding them.

Mooshoo Labs
Remotes Needed: 62
Description: This is the rebuilt lab used by the formerly-deceased Mooshoo Pork, one of the best generals ever to be in the service of Rez. Recognizing his talents, ReRun wisely decided to revive him (in turn entrusting him with a Gold Remote) and gave him a few upgrades to both his lab and his own powers, and as a result, MooShoo has been able to act as an effective intelligence gatherer, providing ReRun valuable research information on the movements and powers of Gex. Mooshoo Pork may not initially see like much more of a threat than he originally was, but now that he is gifted with the power to wield electricity, Gex is going to have to find a different way to take down this gentleman monster before he ends up cut open on a dissection table.
This is a part of a video game idea for the Gex series entitled "Gex: A ReRun of Fallen Glory". I have created this project in light of not only being a huge fan of the series but also after learning of the news that Square Enix has openly made the IP of the series open to developers. I am no developer myself (though I would DEFINITELY like to be able to make that happen if it means making something serious out of this work), but I suppose this is my attempt at putting together what could be called a video game story-line. I have no idea how far this project is even going to go, but I see it as a test of my creative skills and it may be the most thought-provoking and involved attempt at making an original story that I have ever undertaken. I can only hope that this project will give me a taste of creating original stories and in turn open up my writing skills to new genres of writing that I have otherwise had little experience in.

This particular piece is part 1 of 2 of a short descriptive list of some of the featured collectibles in the new Neo Media Dimension as well as the various worlds that comprise it.

Have you ever considered a world based off of 50's sci-fi/monster movies? I feel like that that would be an interesting concept for a world.
