Ninetales (the Fox Pokémon) is a rare Fire-type Pokémon (Ice/Fairy-type in the Alola region and the Blueberry Academy Terarium) found among grassy fields, mountainous environments and cold mountain peaks within the Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Unova, Alola, Galar, Hisui and Kitakami regions and the Blueberry Academy Terarium, as well as the Sinnoh region on rare occasions. Exceptionally intelligent and imbued with mystical power, Ninetales are magnificent creatures that truly tread the line between the physical world and the spiritual one, harboring intense metaphysical powers seen in few other organic life forms. If you plan on training one of these flaming beauties, then you had better be prepared to steer clear of their tails at all costs; accidentally pull one, and you might end up receiving a curse that will haunt your bloodline for generations to come!

When exposed to the radiant energy of a Fire Stone, the tails of a Vulpix grow incredibly hot before splitting further into a total of nine tails and increasing in length substantially. Covered in golden fur that only grows more beautiful with age, Ninetales are magnificent creatures that seem to be shrouded more in secrecy than they are fact. Despite their seemingly organic construct, Ninetales are often revered as mystical creatures that can utilize powers seen only in Ghost-types, namely the ability to generate long-lasting curses. While Ninetales are usually peaceful and prefer not to be involved in conflict (though for some odd reason they can learn the Nasty Plot technique while Vulpix cannot), they can easily become vindictive and relentless when irritated and will gladly lay curses on anyone foolish enough to suddenly grab or yank their tails without warning. While many scientists are skeptical of such claims, it is interesting to note that hundreds of cases involving such curses are part of the public record world-wide and are widely accepted as historical fact. These curses are believed to be so potent that that they actually go on as long as the Ninetales responsible for casting them remains alive; since Ninetales are known to live up to 1000 years in age, these curses tend to travel between family members and through multiple generations with little warning. The true issue, however, is that these curses take on a wide variety of forms and are not wholly dependent upon the individual in question, making their origins somewhat difficult to understand. According to local legends, however, Ninetales were believed to be the reincarnated form of nine powerful magicians that fused their spirits together into one essence; as such, it is believed that each tail is imbued with its own separate, distinct mystical power, perhaps partially explaining why their curses tend to vary so much in their effects. In all likelihood, a scientific explanation behind the powers of these creatures will be impossible to determine until Ghost-types in general can be explained due to the striking similarities they and Ninetales share with each other.

Aside from generating fire with their internal combustion organs (which, though making them warm and cuddly, also forces them to spew fire periodically to prevent overheating on warm days), Vulpix and Ninetales are unique among Fire-types in that they possess the ability to generate fire through pyrokinesis. The ability to wield fire through psychic means is an ability usually seen only among Psychic and Ghost-types and is such associated purely with mental control over the environment; the fact that Vulpix and Ninetales have this ability tells us that their brain structure is far more advanced than what it would initially appear to be. Aside from being able to naturally utilize the Will-O-Wisp and Grudge techniques to inflict harm upon the opposition (as well as being the only non-Ghost-type Pokémon capable of learning both of these techniques), Vulpix and Ninetales are uniquely gifted for being able to learn many strange Psychic-type moves, such as Imprison and Extrasensory, that are normally unseen among Fire-types. It seems that these strange powers are not a recent discovery either, as it is now believed that the kitsune of Japanese legend (specifically the kyūbi no kitsune) were most likely based off of Vulpix and Ninetales; this makes particular sense in the case of Ninetales, who are more than well-known for their incredibly long life spans and penchant for inflicting curses. Ninetales in particular are masters of combining fire and mysterious forces to their advantage, using their Fire-type attacks to hypnotize its opposition before attacking the defenseless target.

It is lastly noted that Ninetales are one of the few species of Pokémon known to have a unique variant within the confines of the Alola region, though this form can also be found in the Blueberry Academy Terarium. In this form, these creatures are Ice/Fairy-types; possess the Snow Cloak Ability as their primary Ability instead of Flash Fire and Snow Warning as their Hidden Ability instead of Drought; gain access to the Dazzling Gleam attack immediately after evolving; and possess a slightly decreased base Attack stat and a slightly increased base Speed stat. While Alolan Vulpix can be found on all of the icy peaks in the Alola region, Alolan Ninetales are only found in the wild atop one particular mountain that is revered as a holy site by the natives of the region, where it is said that great deities in the past came down; as a result, access to this mountain is strictly forbidden by the locals. In comparison to their normal variant, Alolan Ninetales are actually generally calm and gentle by nature when not defending the packs of Alolan Vulpix that they often lead, and willingly help out travelers that are lost or dying in the frozen fields they call home, even if it is for the sole purpose of getting them out of their territory as soon as possible; as such, in ancient times, it was thought they were the incarnate form of a great deity before it was discovered that they were merely a regional variant of a globally-dispersed species. This is still very much present in their powers, though, as unlike in their normal variant, the psychokinetic powers of these beasts are so great that they actually manifest in the form of a make-shift Fairy Force, effectively granting the beasts a secondary Fairy-type assignment upon evolving. While these creatures might be kind to most travelers, they will attack anyone that dares to destroy their habitat with ruthless aggression, using their powers to produce ice crystals from the fur on their backs and tails to block attacks, freeze enemies in place instantly, or even from balls of ice that Alolan Ninetales can then fire of at opponents like bullets with the strength needed to pulverize rock. Though they might not have the most conventional of type assignments, Alolan Ninetales are still powerful creatures and more than worth fearing if you come as anything but a friend when you enter their domain.

Though they might be more trouble than they are worth for trainers that can't keep themselves away from their luxurious tails, Ninetales are nonetheless versatile creatures that can certainly put up a fight with their unique assortment of abilities and attacks. Equally potent among Fire-type and Psychic-type specialists and decently strong on defense, these bizarre foxes are sure to give first-time opponents a rude awakening if they like to specialize in physical brawls a little too much. Thankfully, these beasts are rarely a problem to train as long as you know how to properly groom them; take things nice and slow with them and you shouldn't have to worry about having a child someday with a nose the size of a small banana or something even worse!

There was this old Ninetales that used to live in an mansion in the Johto region. Over 200 years ago, the Ninetales had an owner who she loves very much. Her owner left the mansion on a journey. Though he promised he'd be back in a month, he never returned.

The Ninetales waited for over a hundred years for her master to come back until she realized that her master was never coming back. Unfortunately, she couldn't leave because she was still bound to her Poké Ball that was still in the . In other words, the Ninetales was trapped in the mansion.

As Ninetales continued to wait over the years, her power grew stronger and stronger to the point that she can cast illusions similar to a Zoroark.

Around the time after the Team Rocket incident in Goldenrod City, Ninetales sensed Gym Leader Brock's presence nearby, who was training with his students. Since Brock looked almost exactly like her late owner, Ninetales decided to lure him to the mansion and trap him, so Brock could take over as her new Trainer. Until his students intervened.

But soon, Brock helped freed Ninetales from the mansion, by destroying her Poké Ball and officially releasing her into the wild. (It was an old model anyway)

That Ninetales must be one loyal Pokémon.
