Pichu (the Tiny Mouse Pokémon) is an uncommon Electric-type Pokémon found among grassy plains and forests within the Kanto, Sinnoh, Kalos, Alola, Galar, Hisui, Paldea and Kitakami regions as well as most parts of Asia. Adored world-wide for their incredibly cute appearances and playful antics, Pichu are fun creatures that can give young children a great taste of the world of Pokémon before they're old enough to become trainers. Just be careful about actually battling with these creatures, as they are still quite young and are not very good about holding their electricity in!

Pichu are rather immature in terms of their physical form, so the electric pouches in their cheeks are small and weak; in simple terms, Pichu cannot hold much electricity at all. While the presence of dry air or thunderclouds usually helps them absorb and retain electricity better, Pichu are nonetheless poor Electric-type Pokémon and are among the weakest of their type. If Pichu become startled, excited or amused in any way, or are shocked with electricity, they may unintentionally release all of their electricity in one large blast; aside from potentially zapping nearby allies and friends, what makes this a problem is that Pichu have not developed a resistance to electricity yet and are thus vulnerable to their own powers. As such, Pichu rarely use their powers at all despite the fact that they have enough strength to zap even humans; instead, they prefer to simply run away from predators and opponents in general. Even playing with other Pichu can be a danger because, as a result of their electrical-incompetence, the slightest contact can cause a frightening shower of sparks to be generated; wild Pichu have come to rely on this 'accident' as a test of bravery and thus a way of showing who is the strongest in a group. Perhaps not surprisingly, Pichu are also rather timid and cry easily when scared or presented with a difficult situation, even if they are more inclined to play energetically with others when they are fully charged; their response and use of these emotional outbursts serves as one of the few advantages they have over their evolved forms, as it enables them to learn the Charm, Sweet Kiss and Nasty Plot techniques, which are normally inaccessible to Pikachu and Raichu.

There are two other important quirks to this species that should be taken into account. First of all, it is believed that somewhere within the Johto region there is a very special Pichu unlike any other; this unique specimen has been labeled as the "Spiky-Eared Pichu" because one of its ears supposedly has a barbed growth on it. According to local legends, this particular Pichu is a dear friend of the Celebi said to live within the Ilex Forest of the Johto region and has traveled through time with it so much that its body and genetics have been mutated substantially. While sightings of the creature have been quite common, no one has captured the elusive Pichu; judging by the sightings, though, it wouldn't be much use to trainers anyway, as it seems to be incapable of evolving. Secondly and perhaps more importantly, Pichu are unique in that they are the only known Pokémon able to naturally inherit and learn the Volt Tackle attack, the second-strongest physical Electric-type move recognized. This will only occur, however, if the female Pikachu that bore them is holding a Light Ball; considering how rare these items are, it's no surprise that few trainers have ever witnessed this spectacular attack. While Pichu might not be able to do much with the attack alone, the sheer strength of the move has made the entire Pichu family incredibly popular among casual and professional trainers alike.

Though they might be nothing more than a stepping stone to greater things, Pichu are still interesting creatures that people can't help but fall for. With their energetic personalities and incredibly cute appearances, you can be sure that these critters will make great pets for girlfriends and children alike. Just make sure to keep them away from electrical appliances as much as possible; you never know when they might accidentally chew on an electrical cord, which will not end well for you or them!

There's a Pokémon Ranger who has Pichu who likes to play its tiny ukulele.

Isn't that adorable?
