Sawk (the Karate Pokémon) is an uncommon Fighting-type Pokémon found near large forests and mountains within the Unova, Kalos and Galar regions as well as the Hoenn region on rare occasions. Prized for their agile reflexes and impressive physical might, Sawk are quick-footed fighters that can easily whittle their opponents to pieces before they can even retaliate. If your Pokémon are unarmored or possess relatively weak armor, stay away from these creatures in battle; without any protection, there is little chance of surviving for long against the brilliantly-placed, power-packed strikes of these beasts!
Both Throh and Sawk differ tremendously from their professionally-raised Fighting-type contemporaries in that they are not the product of human training; as amazing as it may seem, Throh and Sawk are the only known species of Pokémon to have developed a particular style of martial art completely independent of humans. Although both Judo and Karate were thought to have been developed first by humans in Japan, it seems that Throh and Sawk have been utilizing the techniques for far longer, as their skills in the two martial arts are unparalleled; the only explanation behind such a coincidence would have to involve a contact between both parties. How such a contact could have occurred has been the subject of much debate for a long time, with no definitive answers arising. It may be possible that, by some miracle of nature, a Throh and Sawk may have been transported across the Pacific Ocean and deposited upon the islands of Japan, thus serving as the original inspiration for those martial arts (in addition, perhaps, to the traditional garbs worn by their wielders). Considering the fact that both Throh and Sawk are only male, this might also explain why they never formed populations in Japan…but even so, any hypothesis regarding the contact between them and humans is incredibly hard to prove, requiring an extraordinary number of factors to go right. Furthermore, the fact that both species are always male brings up some serious issues with their survival in the wild, as Ditto are not normally native to the Unova region. Despite their popularity within fighting tournaments, much remains to be understood about these strange creatures.
Sawk commonly train near mountainous environments where they are less likely to be disturbed while training, almost never sleeping at all as they train to acquire the strongest punches and karate chops physically possible (as Karate is their fighting style of choice); unfortunately, the sound generated from them punching trees and boulders can be heard up to a mile away, making their training spots more than noticeable. Interrupting a Sawk while it is training is rarely a wise idea, as they get incredibly upset if their training regimen is disturbed; the quieter their training area is, the better chance one has of capturing these creatures. Strangely enough, Sawk receive a rush of adrenaline every time they tie their belts; the reasoning behind this is currently unknown, but it is likely more a product of training technique than anatomy. Since Sawk specialize in utilizing an advanced variety of karate, they rarely focus on attacking the opponent full-force with every strike, instead using coordinated, rapid strikes to confuse and whittle away at their opponents simultaneously with the power needed, as some could say, to cleave the oceans. If needed, Sawk will use their feet, elbows and knees to attack the opponent as well, often times surprising them in the process. While strong armor is capable of fending off their strikes for a time, Sawk have become exceptionally adept at locating and decimating weak points within any piece of armor, no matter how slight they may be; in short, slow-moving opponents, no matter how well-armored they may be, are still at risk for sustaining considerable damage. Because karate is far more common among Fighting-type Pokémon than most other martial arts, Sawk learn attacks and techniques that are common to many Fighting-types. It should be noted, however, that Sawk, Pangoro and the Machop family are the only Pokémon capable of naturally learning the Low Sweep attack and that Sawk are among the few known species of Fighting-type Pokémon capable of naturally learning the Rock Smash attack.
Though they might not look threatening at first, Sawk are intelligent fighters that can easily turn even the sturdiest opponents into rubble within moments. Possessing grim determination and physical power unseen among most Fighting-types and more than enough willpower to spare in battle, you can be sure that these blue-skinned monsters will put up one heck of a fight against opponents of all shapes and sizes. Just be careful about using them against Pokémon with exceptional endurance; they might be able to deal considerable damage in a short period of time, but if Sawk are forced to battle for long periods of time without dealing any visible damage, they may get discouraged and decide to quit the battle altogether!
