Scyther (the Mantis Pokémon) is a relatively rare Bug/Flying-type Pokémon found among grassy plains, meadows and forests within the Johto, Sinnoh, Kalos, Alola, Galar, Hisui and Paldea regions as well as the Blueberry Academy Terarium. Wickedly fast and dangerously armed, Scyther are devastating beasts that can easily slice apart anything that gets in their way like a hot knife through olio. They might not be able to take a whole lot of punishment, but that should be the least of your concerns when facing one of these insects in battle; if anything else, what you should be really be afraid of is the fact that you can't even see them moving!
Scyther are well known among Pokémon for their incredible movement speed and unmatched agility in close quarters and are particular popular in regions with vibrant grasslands, such as the Alola region. Although it would normally be impossible for a creature of their size, Scyther are actually able to move so quickly that they appear to be nothing more than a blur and even leave behind shadow images of themselves when seen by the few that can detect their movements. This amazing mobility is possible in the species because all of their muscles are highly elastic and are interconnected with one another like a giant spring; the moment one muscle is used, another muscle nearby is instantly put under tension, building up elastic potential energy rapidly before being used. This in turn allows Scyther to maintain sustained motion at extremely high speeds and for extended periods of time without having to rest. This natural anatomy is enhanced by natural training within the species, as young Scyther live in groups deep in mountainous terrain far from sight, training themselves how to fight using their natural powers and how to move at high speeds without being easily detected. Not surprisingly, Scyther have been compared to ninjas on more than one occasion as a result of their incredible agility and capacity to use it to confuse their opponents and are even used by some ninjas as a nice break from the traditional smoke-and-mirrors act associated with Poison-types. Scyther use their impressive mobility to great effect in the wild and in battle, as they are able to easily strike opponents and cleave them to pieces without them ever truly knowing what hit them. It serves a further useful purpose while hiding in underbrush, as the combination of this speed and their natural green coloring allows them to attack prey from any angle without ever having to reveal themselves.
Aside from their speed, Scyther are also well-known for the wickedly sharp scythes that adorn their forearms. Instead of relying on claws that can be broken off and easily damaged in battle, Scyther have developed massive, single blades that are literally connected to the bone of their forearms and are comprised of a unique mix of metal and bone tissue, in turn granting them both exceptional sharpness and durability. These blades are different from most in that they self-sharpen themselves every single time they cut through something, so it is virtually impossible to ever see a Scyther with dull blades. Moreover, although Scyther do not actually have a lot of physical strength, their high movement speeds enables them to heavily amplify the effects of their attacks, allowing them to slice through air and even thick logs like they were tissue paper (with places in forests that have many cut-down trees in turn often marking the territory of these beasts). Even with such velocity and power, Scyther can still perform their actions with great precision, striking at a target’s weak points with ease and even being able to delicately dress any prey that they kill before they eat it. Overall, these factors help solidify their identity as expert hunters, and Scyther only seem to have much trouble handling armored opponents as a result of a lack of strong armor-breaking attacks. If a threat does appear and Scyther are unable to counter it efficiently, they will rarely ever stay around to fight and will instead choose to fly away (which is usually the only time they will ever use their wings), preferring to stay alive rather than risk their livelihood.
Despite a low resistance against damage, Scyther are devastating creatures that can easily rip apart lesser creatures faster than the human eye can even blink. The chances of ever finding one of these wicked bugs are fairly low, but if you need a fast powerhouse on your team ASAP, there are few beasts that can serve that purpose as well at an early age as these creatures. Just make sure that you learn how to keep track of their movements without paying attention to their actual movements; otherwise, it won't do you much good in terms of building strategy if you can't even tell where your Pokémon is!

Studies in Pokespeech
Almost everyone is aware of the fact that, as many Pokémon were named for their cries, Pokémon speech often consists of their name spoken over and over. I have long found the subject of Pokéspeech to be a fascinating one, as it is clear that Pokémon have much more to say than mere animals. In fact, I envision a world where humans and their Pokémon may freely communicate. Pokémon seem highly adept at picking up new languages, able to clearly understand their trainers in a remarkably short amount of time. Some wild Pokémon have come into contact with enough humans th
