The Sentry Drone, much as its name would suggest, was a type of security robot utilized by the Space Pirates during their operations on Tallon IV to patrol their bases. At the time, these drones were state-of-the-art and came equipped with a pair of energy-powered machine guns on their arms as well as a devastating thermal laser on their main chassis that had the power to stun most creatures if it did not kill them outright. These Security Drones were tasked with patrolling the corridors of the Phazon Mines and parts of Phendrana Drifts, namely within the Space Pirates’ research laboratory in the frozen land and the icy tunnels that led to the few bodies of clean water in that area of the planet. When a Security Drone spots an intruder that has been marked as a threat, it will extend a small pair of wing-like projections and let out an ear-piercing siren that is designed to instantly trigger all defensive systems in the area they are patrolling, locking all doors and in turn sealing them in with the target. Once they have been sealed off, these drones will waste little time in extending a pair of gun-mounted limbs from their body and will begin firing madly at their attacker, flying around rapidly in the process in order to get a better lock on their target and avoid any shots that come their way. Moreover, they emit a powerful signal when they attack that can scramble Visor technology for as long as the signal lasts, making them harder to properly target and attack. Their aim is surprisingly good for a basic machine and they are more than capable of dealing considerable damage to any target that they assault, but they are not exactly perfect. Because they have to remain light in weight in order for their small thrusters to support them in the air, these machines are armored fairly lightly and thus do not have the ability to take much in the way of damage before being destroyed; moreover, the Space Pirates were unable to properly develop a shield for them against electrical attacks, so as with other machines, they can be not only easily devastated with weapons like the Wave Beam but also easily stunned with a charged shot. Even so, these machines and their otherwise limited intelligence can be a pain to deal with in groups, but they thankfully don’t have the ballistic weaponry needed to be a real threat as long one can take advantage of their weakness to electricity.

Aqua Drones are a modified form of the normal Security Drone that have been equipped with water-proof metal coatings and parts that allow the machines to freely travel through the water, though not at as quick of a pace as they would in the air. Unfortunately for the Space Pirates, the parts that control the joint movements between the main body and the machine gun arms could not be made water-proof, so to save on time and money, these drones simply had all of their parts fused together and their guns removed. As a result, the Aqua Drone is only able to use its thermal laser to attack, but it can still cause quite a stir with its Visor-scrambling signals and alarms; a such, they too are recommended to be taken down with electricity-based weapons as quickly as possible.

The Cloaked Drone was an experimental drone developed in the Phazon Mines by the Space Pirates as a guard for their most powerful ballistic weapons (which Samus Aran was eventually able to absorb and reconfigure to regain the ability to use Power Bombs). This drone is identical to the normal Security Drone in terms of its behavior and attacks, but it lacks the Visor-scrambling technology of its lesser brethren. Instead, this machine is equipped with the same type of cloaking field that was used by Shadow Pirates on Tallon IV and effectively renders it invisible to sight in most forms; the only thing that can be seen is the glow given off by its thrusters. In addition, the Cloaked Drone possesses slightly stronger armor than its normal variant and can thus be a difficult target to inflict substantial damage on, but even this proved to be no match against the might of Samus in her fight to find the source of the Phazon corruption that had ravaged the lands of Tallon IV.

The Pirate Surveillance Drone is a heavily-modified version of the classic Pirate Security Drone and uses the body of an Aeromine that has been stripped of its weapons and outfitted instead with a high-powered data transceiver. These drones’ minds are hooked directly into the Pirate Homeworld’s Datanet and everything that they see is transmitted to a monitoring station within the main Command Center area. When the Surveillance Drone spots a life form or object that it does not recognize, it will transmit a signal to the Command Center with live video feed of what it is seeing. If the Space Pirate in control does not see it as a threat, they will have the drone take a picture of the object or creature in question for future reference. If the Space Pirate does see something that is new and potentially dangerous or if the drone recognizes an object associated with an alert profile, the drone will be commanded to let out an electronic screech and their distress call will be instantly picked up by nearby Pirate Alarm Systems, which will then relay a signal to a troop of Commando Pirates to respond to the situation and deal with it appropriately.
