Sentinel Crystals

Sentinel Crystals were originally built by the Luminoth in order to keep a close eye on the activities of the Ing during the war in place of actual soldiers. The devices are constructed out of a durable bio-metal excreted from a bioengineered plant form that can process psychic energy and visualize it at the same time, essentially allowing the Luminoth to directly interface with the device with their minds to see what it is seeing through its otherwise nonfunctional ocular tissue. These devices are surprisingly sturdy and are able to hold up against harsh attacks for a considerable amount of time, though the ravages of war have nonetheless left many of them deactivated or otherwise destroyed. The few that were left prior to the end of the war were used by U-Mos in order to keep watch over the Ing horde and observe their activity, a trait that would prove invaluable in helping Samus Aran find the next destination to go to after the fall of the Dark Agon Wastes.

While the Sentinel Crystals on their own were quite useful, it wasn’t long before the Luminoth realized that they too were vulnerable to the effects of Dark Aether, as most of the Sentinel Crystals that they put in the Dark World would fail shortly after installation as a result of corrosion from constant exposure to the toxic air of the land. In order to make up for this flaw, the Luminoth constructed the Dark Sentinel Crystal, which is sheathed in dark energy for the sake of its protection. These devices are a bit rarer than their brethren as a result of the advanced material needed to construct them, but they have proven to be much more durable and reliable in the Dark World and against the attacks of the Ing than their Light World counterparts.
