Totodile (the Big Jaw Pokémon) is an exceptionally rare Water-type Pokémon found among bodies of freshwater within the Johto region and the Blueberry Academy Terarium as well as the Alola region on rare occasions. Though cute in appearance and seemingly weak at first glance, Totodile are powerful reptiles that can easily rip apart opponents of nearly any size with their sharp teeth and tremendous jaw strength. These little critters might be playful, but anyone wishing to train one had better be careful to keep them on a tight leash; they might not wish to hurt anyone, but it can certainly be said that these creatures simply don't know their own strength!
As with its evolutions, Totodile are crocodilians that share many commonalities with both crocodiles and alligators, particularly in regards to their skull structures (which is similar to those of alligators) and the arrangement of their teeth (which is similar to those of crocodiles). From a young age, Totodile are designed to hunt on their own and are surprisingly adept at hunting small insects and rodents, though they lack the physical stamina needed to take down prey larger than themselves. Even so, these creatures should be feared by children and adults alike because of their tremendous jaw strength. While alligators usually grow slowly and do not acquire the ability to severely damage flesh and bone until they are several years old, Totodile are inherently born with about 60% of their adult jaw strength and are thus considered lethal at birth; this at least makes partial sense considering the otherwise massive size of their jaws in comparison to their small bodies. Thankfully, though, Totodile lack the stout body of their adult form and are unable to rotate their heads quickly without forcing their entire bodies to rotate with them, limiting the amount of damage they can do to sheer compressional force. Even so, a single Totodile can easily fracture and sometimes even break bone when it clamps onto a limb and is thus inherently difficult to remove.
The sheer danger that Totodile present is only made worse by the fact that they are generally quite friendly and playful towards other life-forms. Totodile are somewhat limited by their small limbs in terms of demonstrating affection and thus tend to demonstrate an eagerness to play with another by lightly nipping at them; unfortunately, a nip from a Totodile is equivalent to a strong bite from a medium-sized canine, so the effect generated is often far from what they desire. This can make both opponents and trainers an equally viable target for damage (especially if a Totodile cannot see their faces) and should be heavily considered before anyone decides to train a Totodile. Needless to say, this is often a major deterrent to trainers in the Johto region and at least partially explains their rarity among young trainers; more experienced trainers should have no trouble handling these creatures, however, as they are usually quite obedient and rarely display any signs of unwarranted aggression towards others.
While they might not be able to utilize special attacks as efficiently as other Water-type Pokémon, Totodile are still powerful little creatures that can deal a tremendous amount of damage against unarmored opponents without exerting much effort. Though they might be among the more dangerous playmates a young trainer can have, anyone that is willing to try one of these creatures out is guaranteed to not be disappointed with their abilities. Just make sure that you are diligent about keeping them away from other trainers when they are still young; they might want to make new friends, but it is unlikely that things will go so well when they accidentally take a bite out of your new acquaintance's arm!

My Totodile cried when I accused him of stealing from the cookie jar...but he actually did it. He can’t fool me!
