INTRODUCTION

While the consequences of its existence have been known to the people of the Alola region for some time, the Ultra Space is nonetheless a bizarre plane of existence that has only recently become the subject of great study as a result of the Ultra Crisis in the region. No artificial probe built with this world’s technology has ever been successfully launched into the Ultra Space in order to examine it, but the limited data gathered from those gifted with the transportation technology needed to traverse it has enlightened us greatly as to what the Ultra Space is and what lies within its boundaries. It is the purpose of this article to provide an analysis of what the Ultra Space is, and in association how the Ultra Wormholes that lead from it are constructed, why they exist, the types of life forms that have been observed to exist beyond the Ultra Space, the effects transportation between universes has on travelers and how the world as a whole has handled said travelers in the absence of a definitive way to return them to the worlds in which they belong.

ULTRA SPACE: IDENTITY

Although the Ultra Space has almost never been observed by anyone that has then later been capable of describing it any form and no probe has ever been able to be successively launched into the area without aid from alien tech and knowledge, what data is available from the products of Ultra Wormholes opening into it and flying runs by certain humans through it suggests that the Ultra Space is the unit-changing ether that fills the space between different universes, acting as a zone that separates multiple universes by the addition of one or more dimensions; in the case of the universes that have been safely traversed, this suggests that the four dimensional universe that we live in is separated from universes with the same dimensions by a fifth-dimension ether that cannot be interacted with as a result of us being incapable of directing experiencing and detecting that extra dimension. Moreover, as a result of this, there does not seem to be a direct way to access the Ultra Space safely, as the properties of objects in the ether change and distort to the point where they fail to resemble their original form, and all man-made probes from this universe that have been sent into the ether directly have failed to return, doomed to some lost oblivion beyond the edges of our universe. However, it is known that safe travel is possible through the ether into different universes, but this requires the use of special Pokémon and powers that are not found in this universe, though they have been identified to be in others and are the reason behind human interactions with creatures beyond our universe in the first place.

ULTRA WORMHOLES

The only reason why the existence of the Ultra Space is even known is because the Alola region has a long-standing history of portals opening up and depositing life forms into this world. While most of the creatures that come out of Ultra Wormholes, as they are known, are completely alien to the world that we know, some humans have been known to fall through these wormholes as well and have been able to adapt to the world’s current society with little problem. These wormholes provide access to a myriad array of different universes separated by the higher-dimensional Ultra Space and work as transfer points within the space, connecting various alternate universe together randomly as the portals that lead to other universes appear and vanish over time. However, unlike what might be expected, these wormholes are a bit different in that they can stay open for long periods of time without collapsing. Normally, if one were to enter into one of these wormholes the moment that it formed, it is almost certain that one would not be able to exit to the other side before the neck of the wormhole collapsed, sending the traveler into the void of the Ultra Space. This is due to the fact that these wormholes are mathematically designed to collapse in on their own gravity, and as such, the only direct way to keep the neck open is to force it open with a material or energy of some sort that has antigravitational properties. The term used for such an energy source is known as negative energy, which is differentiated as true negative energy to set it apart from the negative energy that serves as the fuel for Dark-type attacks. True negative energy is possible mathematically, but it had never been observed by humans until the recent past, and the way in which it was discovered (namely by having it generated and concentrated for use by Pokémon like Necrozma and the members of the Cosmog family) serves to help explain why the Ultra Wormholes are seemingly only opening over the Alola region. In addition, it is likely that the Ultra Wormholes actually fall under a specific category of wormholes known as Ellis Wormholes, as it has been observed that creatures emerging from these wormholes are not being forced out but instead can exit the wormhole freely and event stand in front of them without being influenced by any push or pull created by a gravitational source at the mouth of the wormhole, which is a key characteristic of Ellis Wormholes.

When Professor Mohn of the Aether Foundation originally began to experiment with the creation and stabilization of Ultra Wormholes, he found the task to be nearly impossible with available technology; the only thing that made it possible was the discovery of a small creature within the Ruins of Conflict of Melemele Island, which he named Cosmog. Mohn’s research determined that this creature, even if it was not using the power actively, was passively generating small amounts of true negative energy that would dissipate shortly after being formed. Using small samples of the creature’s gaseous body, Mohn attempted to create and stabilize an Ultra Wormhole for scientific study, but he vanished during a mission to do just that; it was never determined what exactly happened, as he only left his notes on Cosmog and a bit of information on the wormholes behind. Later, however, an Ultra Wormhole was successfully generated using more samples from the Cosmog, demonstrating that the creature’s very body was responsible for keeping the neck of the wormholes open. Cosmog, whether or not it was aware of it, was apparently able to passively generate enough true negative energy to add a slight disturbance in the fabric of spacetime, every once in a while creating the instability needed for the enlargement of any one of the many submicroscopic quantum wormholes that are believed to exist in any volume of space. For an Ultra Wormhole to be opened forcefully, though, an intense, ultra-high frequency source of true negative energy is needed, and it seems that Cosmog can only generate such bursts of energy under extreme duress and at the risk of much of their energy. Their fully-evolved forms, Solgaleo and Lunala, however, as well as Necrozma, seem to be capable of using their innate powers to freely generate such bursts of energy at will, opening portals to the Ultra Space whenever they wish. This directly shows that the Ultra Wormholes are Lorentzian traversable wormholes as it is possible for the creatures and anything nearby that they can shroud in true negative energy to travel in both directions when within them, and it further helps to cement these creatures as legendary Pokémon in their own right distinguished from the other observed Ultra Beasts, as only they seem to possess this incredible power. This also suggests that, at least in the case of Solgaleo and Lunala, these creatures are partially powered by true negative energy, though how this is possible is uncertain as their anatomy has never been fully examined. For Necrozma, its Ultra Light has the right properties to generate and manipulate true negative energy as well, explaining how it has access to this power in turn. As a whole, this means that the mere presence of these creatures and the utilization of their powers has been enough to create the observed instability, and are in turn directly responsible for the emergence of Ultra Beasts into this world.

ULTRA WORMHOLE OBSTACLES/PORTALS

As observed by the very few that have been privileged enough to be able to travel through an Ultra Wormhole, there are three types of objects that can be found in the wormholes. First of all, inside of the wormholes are energy packets that contain concentrated bursts of true negative energy that serve as powerful energy boosts to the legendary Pokémon needed to ride through the portals, namely Solgaleo and Lunala; when acquired, they have the effect of boosting the speed of the individual that touches them. Likewise, there are instabilities in the wormhole represent by balls of pulsating energy that destabilize true negative energy, causing anything that hits them to slow down. Thirdly, and most importantly, there are portals, which are exits that form randomly in the breadth of an Ultra Wormhole that leads to different worlds. These portals have a strong gravitational pull to them and can be impossible to avoid if going too slow, so it is usually ideal to be going as fast around or through the edge of a portal as possible if one is wising to avoid getting sucked in by their pull, which acts the strongest on those moving at lower speeds in a wormhole. Each of the different portal types come in one of four different levels; by level, it is meant that some portals give off stronger energy signatures than others and in turn are likely to contain more powerful and/or unique creatures than others. The energy radiating from them is practically invisible for basic portals, but as the energy radiated increase, it starts to form energy rings around the unstable portal, stacking as a single ring, a double ring, and finally as a full-on gravitational warp that causes the very structure of the portal to fluctuate near its entrance. These portals are the most ideal, as they are the most likely ones to either lead to legendary Pokémon from alternate versions of our own universe. In addition, there are five main types of portals, and they are distinguished from each other by a colored energy signature. Four of these portals lead to places in alien worlds that do not seem to have a distinguishable form or identity, and are simply referred to as the Ultra Wilds. Here, the level of the portal doesn’t determine where you will end up, but portals that are farther away in terms of light years traveled from one’s starting point seem to have a greater chance of opening doorways into Ultra Wilds where shiny Pokémon can be found. Red portals lead to an Ultra Wilds location that is located at the top of a high peak; normal Pokémon that can be found here include Altaria, Sigilyph, Swanna, Swellow and Yanmega, while legendary Pokémon that have been spotted here include Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Ho-Oh, Rayquaza, Cresselia, Torndaus, Thundurus, Landorus and Yveltal. Blue portals lead to an Ultra Wilds location in a stream near a large waterfall; normal Pokémon that can be found here include Quagsire, Barbaracle, Stunfisk, Floatzel and Lombre, while legendary Pokémon that have been spotted here include Lugia, Latias, Latios, Kyogre, Uxie, Mesprit, Azelf, Suicune and Kyurem. Yellow portals lead to an Ultra Wilds location contained in a deep cave; normal Pokémon that can be found here include Crustle, Abomasnow, Medicham, Magcargo and Hippowdon, while legendary Pokémon that have been spotted here include Regirock, Regice, Registeel, Regigigas, Groudon, Palkia, Heatran and Giratina. Green portals lead to an Ultra Wilds location on mountainous terrain of some sort; normal Pokémon that can be found here include Audino, Heliolisk, Grumpig, Drapion and Nuzleaf, while legendary Pokémon that have been spotted here include Mewtwo, Raikou, Entei, Dialga, Cobalion, Terrakion, Virizion, Reshiram, Zekrom and Xerneas. Finally, white portals are unique in that they lead to one of seven different Ultra Zones where true Ultra Beasts can be found, each with its own distinct home world, and the rarity of the type of home world that can be reached is very much dependent upon the level of the portal being entered.

ULTRA LIGHT

In talking of Ultra Wormholes, it is also important to acknowledge the presence of an energy force that emanates from them, which originates from the legendary Ultra Beast Necrozma and is officially referred to as Ultra Light, existing as light energy that is bound to and controlled by a unique form of psychic energy. This abnormal energy source does not seem to affect any humans that travel though the Ultra Wormholes, but it does have a profound effect on Pokémon. Pokémon that are situated above Ultra Wormholes as they open are often bathed in small amounts of the energy source, granting them the capacity to boost their stats a bit in a fight and therefore giving rise to the Totem Pokémon of the Alola region. Those that travel directly through the Ultra Wormholes, however, are coated in Ultra Light energy of a much more concentrated state, and thus gives rise to similar stats boosts and the unique Beast Boost Ability that is possessed by all Ultra Beasts that have entered this world in modern times. This same power is what grants Z-Crystals their power and is the reason why the Sparkling Stones, broken pieces from Necrozma that accidentally entered our world, have the power to unite people and Pokémon in using Z-Power in battle. Although Ultra Light can be extremely powerful when used correctly, it is known that it does dissipate over time and must be replenished, which acts as the main reason why Necrozma in particular must feed on light constantly in order to convert it into the Ultra Light that sustains its functions. The only Pokémon that seem to be immune to the effects of Ultra Light are those that radiate it to some degree or otherwise have the power to generate true negative energy to create and sustain portals into Ultra Wormholes, leaving the members of the Cosmog family and Necrozma as the only creatures immune to its effects and in turn capable of possessing unique Abilities different from the Beast Boost Ability.

ULTRA BEASTS

The Ultra Beasts, the extra-universal occupants of the universe connected to the Ultra Space, are creatures that possess such bizarre body forms and powers that they seem to defy what living creatures are thought to be capable of, in many cases possessing attributes that even modern technology cannot yet match given similar physical specifications. There are currently 16 different types of Ultra Beasts known, four of which comprise the Cosmog family and another Necrozma, which stand out strongly from the others for their ability to freely open passages into Ultra Wormholes and utilize true negative energy as a power source and even a weapon in battle.

Nihilego are jellyfish-like creatures with bodies that are structurally similar to glass and that possess potent neurotoxins that can be used to heighten the strongest aspects and abilities of a victim while slowly corrupting them and altering their mannerisms in a way that will serve the species as a whole, as these creatures do not seem to possess the capacity to truly think or feel emotions, instead being driven by pure survival instinct. They can be found in the commonly-reached Ultra Deep-Sea, where they live in colonies among crystalline, coral-like entities in a cavernous sea of air.

Buzzwole are massive, muscular mosquito-like creatures that have the power to pulverize dump trucks with a single blow and are capable of dealing out and taking a great deal of physical damage from opponents, relying on flexing in order to communicate with others. They can be found in the commonly-reached Ultra Jungle, where they live within active volcanoes amongst a sea of unusual trees that form a dense jungle with no clear entrance or exit, stretching all the way to the horizon.

Pheromosa are incredibly agile insectoids that are capable of accelerating their bodily movements from a standstill to over 120 miles per hour in a fraction of a second, and are known to use pheromones that they emit from an organ in their bodies to attract the adoration of other life forms and force them to act as slaves to their every whim. They can be found in the commonly-reached Ultra Desert, a barren wasteland otherwise adorned by rough terrain and massive, gorgeous crystals that the creatures feed on for sustenance.

Xurkitree are large creatures that resemble a bundle of wires with a large, electricity-generating organ at the top of their form and are capable of letting loose bursts of electricity of a million volts at a time, more than enough to practically vaporize any living creature caught in the attack. They can be found in the occasionally-reached Ultra Plant, a living planet coursing with electricity where these creatures can feed on the energy for as long as they wish, growing to the height of skyscrapers over time.

Celesteela are incredibly massive, armored creatures that have the capacity to ignite gases stored in their arms to blast off with enough force to enter space, but are uniquely quite similar to plants biologically and generally obtain their nutrients and energy in the same manner. They can be found in the occasionally-reached Ultra Crater, a nesting site for the species where they generally remained buried for most of their lives until they reach adulthood, blasting off to parts unknown once reaching maturity and leaving massive craters in their wake, hence the name of the zone.

Kartana are paper-like creatures that make up for their small size and cute, origami-like forms by being almost impossibly sharp, as they are capable of cutting though any object, no matter how large or how dense, with very little effort at all. They can be found in the occasionally-reached Ultra Forest, an alien bamboo forest where a scant few humanoid protectors serve to challenge those that wish to tread through this otherwise beautifully-silent world, perfectly suited for the biological and mental needs of the Ultra Beasts that preside there.

Guzzlord are ravenous beasts whose terrifying appearance is only outdone by their insatiable appetite, and if anything enters their mouth, it is quite likely that it will never be seen again, as the creatures seem to be capable of converting everything that they eat into pure energy.  They can be found in the rarely-reached Ultra Ruin, which is believed to be the destroyed remains of an alternate version of Hau’oli City, with the entire planet apparently having been taken over and destroyed by a small population of these terrifying beasts.

Poipole are poison-spewing creatures that enjoy incasing others in viscous, toxic liquid and watching as their prey struggles to survive, though they are generally friendly when not hunting for prey and are often seen in their home world as equivalents to starter Pokémon. They can be found in the world containing Ultra Megalopolis, where they are native life forms.

Naganadel, the evolved form of Poipole, are deadly predators that use the same toxic liquid possessed by their pre-evolved form to encapsulate and kill their prey items, though their aggressive behavior means that they may be just as likely to attack others as they are to attack their own trainers if hungry or agitated. They can be found in the world containing Ultra Megalopolis, where they are native life forms.

Stakataka are imposing legions that resemble artificial stone structures and use their hardened bodies and mimicry abilities to weather the strongest of blows from opponents before flattening them with their massive frames and projectile attacks, though they usually prefer to stay as hidden as possible to avoid detection by potential predators. It is unknown what type of home world they originated from.

Blacephalon are spectral beasts that enjoy using their bodies as dangerous weapons in battle, particularly by decapitating themselves and throwing their heads at prey items and opponents alike as a powerful explosive before feeding on their life energy for sustenance. It is unknown what type of home world they originated from.

Lastly, there is Necrozma, which exists as a deity of light with incredible powers that reach beyond the world within which it once lived, and though it is broken in its current state due to the past actions of the people of the world its once resided in, it is a devastating creature that can use the power of the Ultra Light flowing inside of it to decimate and vaporize anything that gets in its way with a variety of Ultra Light and laser-based attacks. Its world of origin is completely unknown, though it is still strongly associated with the word of Ultra Megalopolis.

Despite their alien structures, the fact that the Ultra Beasts are actually able to sustain themselves within this world reflects the worlds that they live in, as the few glimpses that have been obtained of their home worlds have shown to them to be quite hospitable in comparison to our own. This makes sense given that most of the Ultra Beasts are actually common life forms in their home worlds and seem to survive quite well in our universe, though this world is still not one technically built to be able to support them without some sort of ecological disaster occurring.

TREATMENT OF ULTRA BEASTS

For most of the history of the Alola region, there didn’t exist a safe way to try and contain any Ultra Beasts that poured forth onto the region, as capture technology up to the recent day had a hard time recognizing them as Pokémon and therefore would not react properly to their presence; because of this and the inherent destruction that the creatures have been known to be capable of, termination was the only logical solution in most cases, and in recent times groups like the International Police have served as the head defender of the planet in these instances. The organization has a secret section known as the UB Task Force whose sole purpose has been to eliminate any and all Ultra Beasts, as named by the Aether Foundation’s Professor Mohn, and by any means necessary. The two main agents tasked with this purpose in recent times were Looker and Officer Nanu, the Kahuna of Ula’ula Island, and a third agent was usually added in for reasons that were kept secret to the public. Thankfully for these creatures, recent advancements made by the Aether Foundation in secret led to the creation of the Beast Ball, a piece of capture technology capable of locking onto the Ultra Wormhole energy that new arrivals are bathed in, and is so effective at doing so that it is among the most powerful of capture devices available even if it only really works effectively against Ultra Beasts. Following the end of the Ultra Crisis, these devices were given to certain officials and anonymous individuals in order to safely contain the creatures instead of just killing them, allowing them to be safely taken care of in places like Aether Paradise and preserved for scientific study. Although many of these creatures were recently released into the world as a result of the actions of Necrozma, they were all safely contained with the help of the island kahunas of the Alola region and the trainer that defeated Necrozma to avert further crises.

Unfortunately, the handling of the UB Task Force by the International Police in the past had not been completely without corruption, as their intentions have been more than made clear in secret. When the UB Task Force was originally occupied by Looker and Nanu, there was a third member to the group that had been sent with them for support. However, during a mission where they were trying to put down an Ultra Beast, Looker hesitated to deliver the final blow, feeling sorry for the creature, providing it enough time to lash out and kill the third member of their party. Looker blamed himself for not considering that she may not have been adequately trained to handle combat with such beasts, and it was only during the events of the Ultra Crisis that the truth was quietly revealed. The individual that was killed was what the International Police refer to as a “Faller”; in essence, a human that came into this world through an Ultra Wormhole. Although the organization would likely never admit to it, Fallers were used by the International Police for the UB Task Force because they act as bait for Ultra Beasts. Like the Ultra Beasts themselves, these humans are bathed in Ultra Light energy as they pass into this world, with the most concentrated exposures coming from a longer exposure to the inside of an Ultra Wormhole. Ultra Beasts can detect this energy and will hunt it down tenaciously, recognizing the energy signature from their own journey into this world and mistaking it for a portal that will lead them back where they belong. When they come to realize that it isn’t a way home, the creatures become highly aggressive and will attack a Faller out of fury, never letting up until their anger is satiated. The International Police were well aware of this the first time they used a Faller to try and lure out the beasts and planned to do the same in the future before the arrival of the uncontrollable Necrozma axed their plans. This scrupulous decision soured the mood of both Looker ad Nanu as a result of this, as it couldn’t be justified to try the same plan again since the last time it was attempted it resulted in the death of an agent. It is quite likely that someone else would have suffered the same fate had the trainer that defeated Necrozma had not become a Faller themselves and in turn attracted the remaining Ultra Beasts to their position following the Ultra Crisis, helping to relieve some of the pressure that would have otherwise been placed on the organization and its members.

CONSEQUENCES OF ULTRA SPACE TRANSPORTATION

As noted before, there are direct consequences that come from exposure to the Ultra Light energy emitted by Ultra Wormholes, but it is also important to note lastly that it seems that traveling through the Ultra Wormhole without the proper protective gear also has some considerable side-effects. In the case of humans, the result is selective amnesia; while basic motor skills and technical information is preserved, memories about oneself and events that happen to them are either heavily damaged or completely erased. Furthermore, excessive exposure to the energy in Ultra Wormholes seems to have a negative effect on humans, causing headaches and bodily weakness that can make any contact with Ultra Beasts potentially life-threatening if time is not taken to recuperate after heavy exposure. As for the Ultra Beasts themselves, outwardly there seems to be no effect from entering this world, aside from increased aggression that is more related to their sudden expulsion into our world from a world that is better suited for their biological needs.

CONCLUSION

While the true, exact nature of Ultra Space may remain a mystery for some time, it is more than apparent that it is the perfect and only true way for entities from different universes to actively interact with one another. Though the Ultra Wormholes that connect between worlds may only be safely traversed by those with the necessary equipment, with a little bit of help, it is a worthwhile venture to try and explore the many worlds that they link to. The more that we learn about the multiverse and its inhabitants, the stronger we will grow as a sentient and cordial race of life forms and the stronger we will become as humanitarians and peace-makers, extending our banner of understanding and scientific inquiry beyond the edges of our universe and into the ethereal void of Ultra Space that otherwise lies beyond what human perception can allow us to observe and make sense of.

Ive entered a place like Konikoni City through the Ultra Wormhole but it was all a bit more gloomy and goth-like. Saw an alternate me there who basically is the opposite of me.
