This bizarre creature’s original form has never been determined as no native life forms from nearby planets have been observed to contain anything like it aside from a slight physical and behavioral resemblance to the Ramulken of SR388, but considering how feisty and tenacious of an opponent it was for Samus Aran, that is probably a good thing. This creature, like a few others seen in the B.S.L. Research Station, was actually a composite monster made from a Core-X and several normal X-Parasites fused together, which is believed to be the cause behind this creature’s elongated body. Zazabi possessed a soft, interior body frame that resembles a distorted sea medusa covered by a thick, segmented, transparent shell that was effectively immune to all forms of beam and concussive damage. At the top of Zazabi were a series of five sensory appendages that appeared to have been used for breathing purposes, as the rest of the creature’s shell was airtight and could not be opened when the monster was resting. In terms of sight, Zazabi only had a single, massive eye, but its sheer size suggests that it probably had very good vision. In fighting Samus, this monster would use the tiny hooked extensions on the bottom of its body to scuttle around the ground before hopping back and forth above Samus; it is likely that the creature would have used this movement to potentially squash creatures that tried to flee from it or otherwise confuse its target before leaping even higher into the air and spreading its mouthparts wide. As it did this, Zazabi would float slowly down to the ground in the hopes of encapsulating a prey item, and if Samus did get caught in its mouth, the monster would rapidly start to drain her energy with its interior tentacles until she was able to use Morph Ball Bombs to hurt and goad the creature into spitting her up (which became increasingly harder to do as the battle raged on). This moment of attack, however, was also the only moment that Samus had to hurt the beast, as she could easily fire Missiles and charged beam shots up into the exposed internal tissues to hurt the creature before dodging to the side, and every time Zazabi was heavily damaged, it would lose a segment from its body. This made the creature increasingly mobile as the battle went on and led it to jumping more times for each segment before revealing its weak spot again, but by the time it had only a single segment left (the one holding its eye), the creature was on its last legs and no longer had the power to wildly hop around, allowing Samus to capitalize and whittle its remaining health away. With its true Core-X form exposed, Samus was able to deliver the last few concussive hits to its body to rupture its shell and absorbed the creature which, as one might have expected from Zazabi’s attributes, restored Samus’ access to her High Jump Boots and Spring Ball upgrades.
