Floette Report

Floette (the Single Bloom Pokémon) is a relatively uncommon Fairy-type Pokémon found among flower-filled fields within the Kalos, Alola and Paldea regions. Though they might seem innocent from a distance, Floette are powerful fighters that can more than push their weight around when it comes to destroying opponents from afar. If you know what’s good for you, though, you should really pay attention to the flower that they carry around; it may only be a single flower to some, but for these poor creatures, it’s also the only flower that they will get the chance to have!

The members of the Flabébé family are Fairy-type Pokémon that seem to have taken a liking to the life of flowers so much that they have effectively tethered the survival of their species to the life of these otherwise simple plants. It is unknown currently when and why this happened, but it appears that these creatures, just like most early Fairy-types are predicted to have been, were once relatively formless creatures that could only survive in very specific environments that are now gone in the modern day. When their habitats of choice died out, these creatures needed to find a way to blend in with the rest of the world and in turn find a new place to live and survive. In the case of the Flabébé family, they decided to form a close connection with flowers in order to adapt to changing climatic conditions over the past millennia. Today, these small creatures are biologically connected with flowers so strongly that the two have effectively formed a perfect bond of symbiosis, eliminating sexual interactions with members of the same species to the point of rendering all specimens female. While most flowers are stuck in the ground and are relatively immobile, Flabébé and its evolutions are able to use the natural power of their Fairy Force to energize flowers and grant them so much energy that they can actually be severed from their stalk and in turn exist alive independently of their original body. In turn, these flowers protect their ‘liberators’ by granting them a method of mobility through levitation, reproduction and providing them with the rare Flower Veil Ability, which protects them against having their stats lowered by an opponent. Normally, plant-based Fairy-types (the members of the Flabébé and Cottonee families) cannot reproduce on their own as a result of their bizarre anatomy. While Cottonee and Whimsicott have overcome this by actually becoming plants, the members of the Flabébé family have not taken such a drastic plan of action; instead, they have changed their bodies over time to incorporate some of the same reproductive feature seen in plants, allowing them to actually reproduce through traditional pollination and seed formation, though in their case this seed will eventually become an Egg. This biological symbiosis is so strong between these creatures and their host plant that the two will effectively die without one another; moreover, the host fairy can utilize Grass-type moves and powers that are otherwise beyond them with these plants, and over time these flowers will literally be fused to these creatures upon reaching their fully-evolved state as Florges. These odd fairies might not look like serious threats, but considering how far they have come, it is unlikely that anything is going to change this beautiful relationship in the future, which only adds to their adorable charm.

Floette are much more outgoing than their pre-evolved form and tend to be much more of an active player in the local ecosystem. Floette are often considered a sure sign of nature’s power, as they are able use their natural Fairy Force powers to actually repair damaged or even wilting flowers in an instant, turning rotting plant matter into a gorgeous flower display. This unique gift is attributed to them finally maturing into a semi-adult form alongside the flower they first chose to be with after birth; while they are now large enough to hold the flower with their own hands, it is still just as much a part of their body as ever and is protected by them at all times. As a result of their maturation, these creatures are able to use both their natural Fairy-type powers and acquired Grass-type powers to completely change the battlefield to match their favor (with moves like Grassy Terrain and Misty Terrain) and even launch devastating attacks like Moonblast and even Solar Beam, with the power of their attacks increasing the more gorgeous their blossom is, making them a considerably amount stronger than their pre-evolved form could ever be. Interestingly enough, though, it seems that the maturation with their host plant has additionally affected the psychology of these beasts, as their carefree nature is replaced with one of determination and excitement when it comes to plants. Their love for flowers is so great that they willingly give up their own energy just so they can take care of them and keep the flowers healthy, and they will show no forgives and mercy to those that mess up the flower beds they tend to. In fact, Floette are often used as a sign for the arrival of spring because the moment that the first flowers of spring begin to bloom, these creature are said to appear in large numbers and begin dancing around the blooming flowers in celebration. This feat is a beautiful sight to behold on any day and definitely worth sticking around to see, though they tend to get quite aggravated if something like a capture attempt interrupts their joyous dancing.

It is lastly noted that, while most Floette are only moderately powerful and carry a fairly wide array of colorful flowers, there is one Floette whose story and powers are both exceptional and terrifying. When AZ, the last king of the Kalos region, created the Reaper of Ambrotos to revive his darling Floette, the results of the experiment altered it biologically and changed it into a monster completely separated from the rest of its kind for eternity. This is mainly because the flower that it once held (a rare and distinct species that possesses three long petals and a dark red and black coloration and is solely found within the Kalos region) has been mutated and turned into a bizarre creature known as the Eternal Flower, its biological properties twisted and altered by the infusion of so much raw life energy. This flower, whose species is now almost completely extinct, never wilts, changes color, produces seeds, pollen or nectar of any sort; it is literally frozen in time, doomed to remain as it is and to never create others of its kind. This sterility is directly transferred to AZ’s Floette and is reflected in its own unique, altered color scheme, doomed to never be able to reproduce or evolve whatsoever. However, while this drawback of immortality seems like more of a burden than a help, it is counteracted by the fact that the Eternal Flower is capable of harnessing Fairy Force energy by itself even without the aid of AZ’s Floette, to the point where it elevates the creature’s base stats a tremendous degree, even above that of its normal evolved form, Florges. In particular, this permanent mutation has had the effect of moderately increasing its base HP, Attack and Defense stats, considerably increasing its base Special Defense stat, critically increasing its base Speed stat, and astronomically increasing its base Special Attack stat. In addition, by harnessing the power of the Eternal Flower, AZ’s Floette is capable of using its own life energy to fuel a devastating blast of Fairy Force energy that deals catastrophic damage to anything it touches; this attack, known as the Light of Ruin attack, is completely unique to this Floette specimen and is the most powerful Fairy-type attack recognized, though it is extremely costly in that it deals half of the damage dealt to the target back at the user as recoil damage. Despite this incredible power and the danger that it possesses, this particular Floette was known to simply swing around the flower carelessly, preferring to live a life of joy than destruction for the betterment of itself and the world around it. Since it reunited with AZ after the defeat of Team Flare on the Kalos region, it is unknown where exactly this creature is now, but at the very least it can be said that it will finally be able to spend eternity with the person it cares about the most, even if it means living until the very end of the world.

Despite not being amongst the most powerful of fighters, Floette are nonetheless adorable creatures that can make great companions for trainers looking to add the might of the Fairy-type to their team. They might be stuck in this form without the aid of an evolutionary stone, but for trainers looking to make the best of them, this is an added blessing as it can make training them to learn their best attacks quite easy. Of course, if you’re impatient and happen to have a rare Shiny Stone on you, then by all means use it; just make sure that no one in your family suffers from allergies or hay fever, or you’ll more than likely find yourself out of the house before the first sneeze even comes!
