Literature Text

Kirlia (the Emotion Pokémon) is a relatively rare Psychic/Fairy-type Pokémon found among grassy fields and many other environments within the Hoenn, Sinnoh, Kalos, Hisui, Paldea and Kitakami regions as well as the Johto, Unova, Alola and Galar regions on rare occasions. Despite not being among the most powerful of fighters, Kirlia are graceful creatures that can easily dazzle lesser creatures into submission with their gorgeous appearances and unique mix of moves. Whether you're a dance instructor or a trainer looking to add a little bit of power to you team, Kirlia can make great additions to just about any team; just make sure that you take good care of them and keep them happy, or you might end up with a creature that is less than appealing!

Much as with Ralts, Kirlia are able to sense the emotions of others as a result of the horn-like extrasensory organs on their heads and are thus highly dependent upon this power for survival, as they are still quite weak and have yet to develop the extreme powers that will make their evolved forms dangerous combatants. In the meantime, though, Kirlia take their dependence on happy emotions a bit farther than Ralts in that their overall attitude and appearances are affected by their emotions and the emotions of others. If Kirlia are happy, they will develop an elegant, beautiful appearance and will often dance for joy in the morning or any other time of the day in sheer joy. If they are around depressing people or otherwise miserable themselves, however, their fur color will grow dull and they will lose their characteristic 'smooth' fur appearance as well as acquiring a brooding, distant personality, granting them the look of someone who just woke up with a really bad hangover. This does not fare well for their personal health, as continued exposure to negative emotions will eventually result in total organ failure and then death, which is sadly something that cannot be reversed. Trainers need to be wary of this when taking care of Kirlia and should do their best to keep their Kirlia as healthy as possible, lest they end up with something that is less than visually appealing and combat efficient in battle.

Although they are unable to do a lot of damage with their developing psychic powers, Kirlia are already in a form that begins to demonstrate the extremes to which their powers can physically go to. When Kirlia focus their psychic powers in a single spot using the horns on their head, they can actually create temporal disturbances that enable them to see into both the past and, more importantly, the future; since they are unable to completely verify what they see, however, it is unwise to fully rely on their abilities (since the future is a flexible thing and can easily change at any moment). Moreover, Kirlia have the bizarre ability to access information from different dimensions simply by using their power, in turn projecting scenery of all types within this real world as a mirage. However, this scenery can look more than real in some cases, so the chances of it acting as a distraction or potentially providing Kirlia and their opponents' cover that isn't there are high enough that they can be a great threat to any challenger that dares to fight Kirlia head-on. As with their future-telling abilities, however, this ability is not perfect and the imaginary scenery can and will likely disappear at any given moment, so trainers should be careful not to rely on these unique powers as part of their strategy in battle and should merely accept them as a small assistance.

While they might not be strong enough to be a major threat to most opponents, Kirlia are fun-loving creatures that can give budding trainers the perfect chance to prove their worth as kind people early-on. Whether you choose to evolve these graceful creatures into a powerful special attacker or a brutal physical attacker is up to you, but regardless of the path you take, it's can certainly be said that sticking around with one of these critters is a choice you likely will not regret. Just make sure that you don't let them look into the future too much if you want them to be happy; no offense, but the future is more often than not a depressing thing, a trait that these strange beasts will be more than affected by!
