Mankey (the Pig Monkey Pokémon) is a relatively uncommon Fighting-type Pokémon found among forested areas within the Kanto, Johto, Paldea and Kitakami regions as well as the Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova and Alola region on rare occasions. Quick to anger and difficult to calm down, Mankey are somewhat playful creatures that can be great friends as long as they get what they want. It would still be wiser, though, to keep away from these critters if you want to stop them from getting angry; then again, just about anything makes them angry, so good luck with that!

Mankey are relatively simple primates that stand out from their close relatives as a result of the pig-like snouts they (as well as their evolved form, Primeape) possess, hence their classification as the Pig Monkey Pokémon. Mankey live within relatively large colonies among forests and rarely ever leave their colonies for any reason; as such, it is difficult for some trainers to capture Mankey without having to deal with an entire colony at once. Mankey eat little to no meat and instead focus on a diet filled with fruits and nuts, rarely showing much in the way of preferences; as long as they can reach it or crack it open, Mankey will gladly eat it. The only exception to this rule is the chestnut, which Mankey absolutely love and will gladly fight each other over. Unfortunately, Mankey do not possess the dexterity needed to easily peel these prickly seeds by hand and must either endure the pain of manual peeling or risk destroying the precious insides by smashing the seed open with a rock. Mankey often remain stubborn and refuse to risk damaging the precious cargo, leading to more pain and frustration than the seeds are usually worth.

What makes Mankey (and in turn their evolved form, Primeape) different from other primates, though, is their incredibly volatile temper. To put things point blank, no one has any idea what does and doesn't set off a Mankey; becoming separated from their colony, falling on their faces, getting insulted, forgetting which way they were supposed to go and getting lost, being left alone because they are already angry and everyone has cleared out to avoid their rampage…the list of things that infuriate these creatures goes on and on. While it's relatively easy to tell when they are about to blow their tops, as their bodies will start shaking and their breathing will become quite rough, this volatility makes predicting their temper tantrums nearly impossible. There are two things in particular, however, that make these rampages especially dangerous. First of all, Mankey forget about everything else but their anger once enraged and will handily slug whatever target may be nearby, whether it is a friend, foe or innocent bystander. Secondly, the anger is apparently contagious; if even a single member of a Mankey colony is enraged, the entire colony may become angry and rampage through the environment, leaving silence as a rare visitor to groups of Mankey. As such, trainers have to be especially careful when attempting to capture a wild Mankey if they want to avoid a beat-down from an entire colony. It is believed by some that these temper issues may be due to a tremendous imbalance in regards to the amount of adrenaline they naturally produce, but tests so far have proven to be inconclusive. What is certain, though, is that it is not good for their general well-being, as while they will eventually tire from their anger and fall asleep, they will continue to feel anger in their dreams, even to the point where it rouses them and keeps them from sleeping, only serving to infuriate them even further; trainers will have to keep close watch over their Mankey to help them through this, as the lack of sleep can easily prove to be detrimental to their long-term health. At the very least, though, it can be said that their living situation could be worse, as their habit of letting out their anger instead of holding it in is more beneficial towards their overall health than not losing their temper on a constant basis.

Despite being hard to control and even harder to predict, Mankey are agile fighters that can certainly bring one heck of a beat-down once angered. They might not have the defenses needed to last very long in battle, but with their speed and the right combination of moves needed to put some serious hurt into the opposition, these creatures will certainly put up a good fight every time. Just be careful about using them in any Multi-Pokémon battles; they might be strong once they've been enraged, but don't think that you, your Pokémon or even the opposing trainer will be safe from getting caught in the crossfire!

Fortunately for my OC he didn’t anger a Mankey who took his hat.
