Quagsire (the Water Fish Pokémon) is a relatively uncommon Water/Ground-type Pokémon found around cold bodies of water in the Kanto, Johto, Sinnoh, Kalos, Galar and Kitakami regions as well as parts of the Sevii Islands and the Unova region on rare occasions. Often laughed at for their easy-going nature, Quagsire are simple creatures that do very little with their lives at all and have little to offer in the way of true combat potential. You probably won't see too many of these creatures in professional combat, but that's not because they can't fight if needed; they're simply too gentle and lax to put much of a hurt on anyone!

Quagsire, like Wooper, cannot stand living in water that is above 80 degrees Fahrenheit and will in fact perish within a few hours if placed under such conditions; furthermore, they also coat their bodies with a slightly toxic film for hydration purposes when out of the water. The key difference between these two creatures lies within their hunting styles. While Wooper are at least somewhat active hunters and go on land for that purpose only, Quagsire do not technically hunt; they simply lay at the bottom of their aquatic habitat with their mouths open, waiting for prey to accidentally enter their mouths. This behavior has baffled experts for generations and there is very little information available that explains it, as Quagsire are significantly more powerful than Wooper and are able to strike with some decent strength. As it turns out, however, Quagsire almost never move when at the bottom of their habitats, which in turn allows them to conserve the vast majority of their energy reserves and can more than fuel their existence to breeding season simply by devouring whatever creature is foolish enough to accidentally enter their open mouths. Even though prey are captured by Quagsire very infrequently, this blind-sighted event nevertheless occurs frequently enough to make such a hunting style relatively effective, especially at the cloudy, muddy bottoms of ponds and streams.

It is duly noted that, despite their decent selection of attacks, Quagsire just don't like to fight; in truth, their personalities are about as laid-back as one can get without going towards the realm of mental defects or brain damage. Quagsire are exceptionally friendly towards all creatures and care little for their own personal safety, and while this unfortunately often leads Quagsire to collide with boat hulls unintentionally (as they seemingly feel no reason to move out of the way), nothing seems capable of effectively angering or frustrating them whatsoever; they simply like to be happy. Though this behavior has been a relative mystery for some time, recent studies may have finally found the cause behind this way of life. It seems that the brains of Quagsire, though rather simple, are built to constantly pump endorphins into their body; it is unclear as to why this occurs, but it may certainly explain why they are always so carefree and easy-going. Regardless of the reasoning, this behavior makes Quagsire one of the few known species of fully-evolved Pokémon that can easily be trusted around young children, making them popular in some areas as Day Care supervisors despite their otherwise dangerous ability to utilize the Earthquake attack fairly early in their lives.

Carefree and always in a good mood, Quagsire are simple creatures that can make just about anyone smile with their odd mannerisms and laid-back attitude. They might not seem like much, but these strange beasts are definitely among one of the more unique species of Pokémon out there, especially when you consider how bad-tempered many fully-evolved Ground-types tend to be in the wild. Of course, you still shouldn't underestimate their combat abilities; they might not like to battle, but that doesn't mean that these critters can't get in a good strike every now and then with their Earthquake attack, not to mention the fact that they will happily smile for no reason at all even if they get hit by a lightning bolt!

Here's some interesting trivia.

Quagsires are very special to the people of Cherrygrove City in Johto because they help identify the cleanest water in the area. The Pokémon is so special to the city, that it's illegal to catch them under Cherrygrove City's Quagsire Preservation Restrictions.

Every year, the Quagsires swim down from the nearby Blue Moon Falls and take round objects around Cherrygrove City as a part of a ritual when the moon is full.

At Blue Moon Falls, the Quagsires attempt to launch the round objects they have collected to the top of the waterfall to see who can reach the highest; the highest target is the moon itself.

The round objects will float back to Cherrygrove City and are believed to be blessed once they are retrieved;

the final round object to come down is said to bring good luck.
