Remoraid (the Jet Pokémon) is a relatively uncommon Water-type Pokémon found among freshwater streams and rivers and some bodies of saltwater within the Johto, Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos, Alola, Galar and Hisui regions as well as parts of the Sevii Islands. Though somewhat small and vulnerable to attack, Remoraid are fascinating beasts that effectively take the notion of type diversity and spin it on its head. They might not be able to fight back much in battle, but for these creatures that probably won't matter much in the end; after all, why worry a whole lot about offense when you have more than enough versatility to take down opponents that normally should never be in your jurisdiction!?

Similar to Horsea, Remoraid specialize in hunting small insects that fly near the water's surface; the only difference is that they use water instead of just ink. By gulping down large volumes of water at a time and then forcefully squeezing their abdominal muscles, Remoraid are able to produce tremendous jets of water capable of striking down Pokémon like Burmy and insects in general even when they are moving and are up to 300 feet away, earning them the moniker of the “sniper of the seas” in places such as the Alola region. Moreover, by squeezing the entire length of their abdominal cavity, Remoraid can effectively center their sight and perfectly aim every single spray that comes from their mouth. This ability also serves as a useful deterrent against predators in the water, as Remoraid can quickly expel water from their bodies to propel themselves backwards at astonishing speeds. Interestingly enough, Remoraid are particularly gifted among aquatic organisms in that they have the amazing ability to utilize a number of beam-based attacks, apparently the result of an abnormal quirk in their genetics. While they don't have the natural ability to cover a wide range of types with their attacks, the fact that Remoraid still have access to attacks such as Charge Beam, Psybeam and Aurora Beam is astonishing. Sadly, their thin skin is fairly weak and susceptible to being damaged easily, so the chances of them being able to use any of their attacks before being knocked out are fairly small; even so, these strange beasts possess a lot of versatility that is otherwise unseen in other pure Water-type families.

Although Remoraid are generally believed to be fish, this could not be farther from truth; Remoraid are in fact octopus larvae that merely look like fish. While their outward appearance would denote otherwise, internally, Remoraid are set up exactly like their evolved form Octillery and share very few similarities with fish at all. In light of this knowledge, it comes as no surprise that the small dorsal fin on the top of the heads of Remoraid is actually a developing suction cup that can attach itself to smooth surfaces much like a vacuum-producing hook. This abnormal design actually serves Remoraid well, as it allows them to attach themselves to the broad fins of Mantine to not only protect themselves from harm but to also garner a free meal from any leftover scraps their host may leave behind. Over time, Remoraid will become more and more attached to their Mantine hosts until they eventually become a semi-permanent fixture, waiting and developing slowly until they finally approach evolution as they simultaneously assist their host Mantine in fighting of potential threats to both their life and their host’s. Once the time for evolution comes, Remoraid will leave their hosts and swim downstream to shallow pools of water, where they can finally evolve in peace without worrying about being attacked by predators.

Though they might not have much in the way of personality nor have a whole to offer in the way of defenses, Remoraid are interesting creatures that can certainly fight back with a variety of moves that are otherwise unseen among Water-type Pokémon. You probably won't find much use for them in battle until after evolution, but if you can stick with these oddball critters for at least a little while, you likely won't be disappointed with the results. Just make sure not to keep them near any Mantine if you plan on actually using them in battle; otherwise, there's a good chance they may never leave to do anything for you at all!

Remoraids look like guns! In fact, they were used pistols in a spaghetti western film that featured only Pokémon.
