Wartortle (the Turtle Pokémon) is an exceptionally rare Water-type Pokémon found in ponds, lakes and sea Routes near and within the Kanto region and the Blueberry Academy Terarium as well as the Alola and Galar regions on rare occasions. Considered to be symbols of longevity, Wartortle are durable creatures that can easily put up a good fight against other Pokémon with their powerful Water Gun and Bite attacks. Wartortle may not have the sheer power of their evolved form, Blastoise, but they definitely have something far better that many trainers will have mixed feelings about: a seemingly unending life-span!

Wartortle are generally complacent and easy to get along with; though they are active predators, they never hunt other Pokémon and instead stick to aquatic plants and small aquatic animals. As such, they are considered a welcome sight wherever they live and are rarely attacked by anything. Because they are larger than Squirtle and have a larger shell, Wartortle have a more difficult time walking on land and keeping their balance in the water. While nothing can be done about their land situation, Wartortle can use their ears and tails as both rudders and balancing rods to assist them when swimming at high speeds. Aside from these differences, Wartortle act almost exactly like Squirtle, retracting into their shells and attacking from that position when threatened; in the case of Wartortle, however, their large tail cannot easily be concealed and therefore sticks out a bit even when fully retracted.

Unlike most Pokémon that naturally evolve with age, Wartortle do not always evolve; if they are happy with their living situation and feel no need to ever evolve, Wartortle will remain Wartortle for their rest of their lives. The reasoning for such a decision stems from the fact that Wartortle must give something up in exchange for evolution: an exceptionally long life-span. Wartortle generate a natural enzyme within their bodies that physically repairs damaged tissue on a regular basis, allowing for the infinite regeneration of cellular tissue without the need for replication; this enzyme, whose production halts upon evolution, essentially allows Wartortle to live for hundreds if not thousands of years, with some legends even claiming that they can live for as long as 10,000 years. While trainers almost always prefer to have their Wartortle evolve so that they become more powerful, wild Wartortle that are happy with their lives have no need to. Furthermore, Wartortle demonstrate clear signs within their external frame that allow even children to gage their relative age. For one thing, because damage to their shells heals very slowly, numerous scars and scratch marks on a shell are indicative of many battles. Secondly, as Wartortle age, they very gradually begin to slow down and become weaker just as all life forms do; as they slow down, algae will begin to grow on their shells, making it a very useful indicator of extreme age. Finally, as time goes on, the amount of pigment contained within the luxuriously soft fur covering their tails naturally increases, darkening its color; this process happens at about the same pace in all specimens, making it the most useful indicator of age. For this reason alone, many people have come to see Wartortle tails as a sign of longevity and often take the appearance of those with dark violet tails as the sign of a stable ecosystem with few predators that are extremely dangerous to humans.

Friendly and sociable in all the right ways, Wartortle can make great partners for growing trainers if they want to have a well-rounded experience in battle. With a good combination of offense and defense and a Bite attack that will leave opponents reeling, Wartortle are useful fighters that can certainly turn around almost any situation in battle.  If you really need some brute force, then don't hesitate to evolve your Wartortle as soon as possible…but if you just need a companion for life, then keeping them just the way they are will work too!

It can live up to 10,000 years!? That's enough for an entire world to change!
